The position is located at the Northport Veterans Affairs Medical Center in the Environmental Management Service. The Laundry Worker position is organizationally located in the Linen or Laundry Section and functions under the supervision of the Laundry Supervisor.

EXPERIENCE: A specific length of training and experience is not required, but you must show evidence of training or experience of sufficient scope and quality of your ability to do the work of this position. Evidence which demonstrates you possess the knowledge, skills, and ability to perform the duties of this position must be supported by detailed descriptions of such on your resume. Note: Experience must be fully documented on your resume and must include job title, series and grades for all federal positions held, duties, month and year start/end dates AND hour worked per week. SCREEN-OUT ELEMENT: Your qualifications will first be evaluated against the prescribed screen out element, which usually appears as question 1 in the on-line questionnaire. Include but are not limited to: Incumbent is responsible for the pickup and delivery of clean and soiled linen, employee uniforms, and patients' clothing to and from the Medical Center laundry plant. Deliver individual, bedside, patient clothing, and bundle system Required to operate washer/extractors and/or drying equipment Push clean and soiled linen carts within the laundry plant Demonstrates skill and knowledge necessary to communicate appropriately to the ages of the patients and interpret information to identify the patients' needs Address patient considerations such as the cognitive, emotional, physical and behavioral status of the patient and special problems related to the patients age (young adult, middle adult and geriatric) Ability to follow oral and written instructions and to perform several tasks in a sequence repetitively Knowledge of sanitation and contamination related to the storage of clean and soiled linen Operate the back-up equipment in the Laundry Section Perform independently in accordance with set schedules and priorities Perform assigned duties Work Schedule: Monday-Friday, 6:30 AM- 3:00 PM, maybe required to work holidays and weekends to replenish supplies Position Description Title/PD#: Laundry Worker/PD08406A Physical Requirements: Laundry workers will be required to stand, push, and pull during the course of duty. They will be required to lift up to 50 pounds and be able to push and pull loaded carts weighing approximately 600 pounds. Working Conditions: Laundry workers will be working in the Laundry Plant where they will be subject to heat/humid conditions, foul odors, and loud noises. They will work through all types of weather and will be subjected to all weather extremes while delivering laundry outside of the laundry plant. They may be required to wear protective clothing when handling or sorting contaminated linen.
