This vacancy is for a GS - 0201 - 9, Lead HR Specialist (Military) located in the Department of Homeland Security, U.S. Coast Guard, PPC ADVANCEMENTS BRANCH located in Topeka, KS.
In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below.To qualify at the GS-09 grade level, applicants must have at least one (1) full year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-07 grade level in the federal sector. Specialized experience is experience that has equipped you with the particular ability, skill, and knowledge to successfully perform the duties of this position and is typically in or related to this line of work. Examples of specialized experience include the following: Providing guidance and direction on military personnel record data requirements, service calculations, and/or data correction procedures and requirements. Analyzing problems to identify significant factors, gather pertinent data, and provide solutions. Planning, monitoring, and/or evaluating the work of peers or subordinates. Interpreting and analyzing Human Resources Management laws, principles, systems, policies, or practices. Recommending solutions to human resources management issues and problems. OR Master's or equivalent graduate degree or 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position. OR ???????A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the first year (total graduate semester hours minus 18) by 18. Add the two percentage National Service Experience (i.e., volunteer experience): Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional, philanthropic, religious, spiritual, community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. The Office of Personnel management (OPM) must authorize employment offers made to current or former political appointees. You will serve as a/an Lead HR Specialist (Military) and be responsible for leading the branch work effort in correcting personnel data errors in the automated personnel data base. You will identify data errors and make corrections as required, ensuring all data changes are documented and team members adhere to established procedure for maintain member record accuracy, security, and confidentiality. Being a Coast Guard civilian makes you a valuable member of the Coast Guard team. Typical work assignments include: Providing guidance, and direction to staff in the daily correction of personnel data errors in an automated personnel data base. Assigning work to Team members, providing work instructions, and monitoring work progress. Identifying and providing training needs for staff. Analyzing and evaluating the program, identifying problems or deficiencies, and providing workable solutions. Implementing improvement plans to meet established goals and objectives. Assisting in reviewing new or proposed human resources policies, procedures, and guidelines for impact on organization practices. Analyzing changes to regulations, policies, etc., for impact on military program.
