IAW DoD 8570.01-M you will have 6 months from date of hire to acquire the appropriate IAT, IAM or IASAE level certification designated by the position and/or supervisor.? Failure to do so may result in termination. MILITARY GRADES: E4 THROUGH E9 or O1 THROUGH O2 GENERAL EXPERIENCE: Experience, education or training that has provided a basic knowledge of data processing functions and general management principles that enabled the applicant to understand the stages required to automate a work process. Experience may have been gained in work such as computer operator or assistant, computer sales representative, program analyst, or other positions that required the use or adaptation of computer programs and systems. SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: THIS POSITION IS NOT A CAREER LADDER POSITION OR TARGET GRADE POSITION, THEREFORE YOU CAN ONLY BE SELECTED FOR EITHER THE GS-09 or GS-11 LEVEL. IF SELECTED FOR THE GS 09, YOU ARE NOT IN TARGET GRADE POSITION FOR THE GS-11. For the GS-09:1-year specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade. Specialized experience includes experience, education, or training receiving, maintaining, and issuing data storage media for computer operations. Experience in scheduling the use of computer time for program processing. Experience collecting and sequentially staging input media with associated program instructions for processing. Experience in at least one programming language. Translating detailed logical steps developed by others into language codes that computers accept where this required understanding of procedures and limitations appropriate to use of a programming language. Experience interviewing subject-matter personnel to get facts regarding work processes and synthesizing the resulting data into charts showing information flow. Experience in analysis of the interrelationship of pertinent components of the system. Experience planning the sequence of actions necessary to accomplish the assignment. Experience scheduling the sequence of programs to be processed by computers where alternatives had to be weighed with a view to production efficiency. Knowledge and skill includes the design and development of data management systems that meet current and future business requirements. While this position may be involved in the design of database systems, it is only in a support/assistance role and is performed under the guidance of a higher-graded database. Practical knowledge of database management methods and procedures sufficient to modify storage structures; optimize the database configuration by adding, removing, or relocating files and structures; analyze operations to identify bottlenecks and take corrective action and create data query reports. administrator. For the GS-11:1-year specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade. Specialized experience includes experience, education, or training that approaches techniques and requirements appropriate to an assigned computer applications area or computer specialty area in an organization. Experience planning the sequence of actions necessary to accomplish the assignment where this entailed coordination with others outside the organizational unit and development of project controls. Experience that required adaptations of guidelines or precedents to meet the needs of the assignment. Experience preparing documentation on cost/benefit studies where is involved summarizing the material and organizing it in a logical fashion. Knowledge and skill requirement includes designing, developing and maintaining database management systems that meet current and future business requirements; generating complex queries and reports; defining and allocating storage capacity in the design of data management systems. This work is comparable to the work of this position. Experience performing a wide variety of database management functions including proper sizing of the database structure, data manipulation, database designs and complex queries. Experience or training serving as a project leader for database administration to develop, assign, and coordinate the database management system (DBMS) workload, programs, and projects.
Modifies the storage structure and correlation between databases.
Assists in administering multiple DBMS software designs (e.g., Oracle, Informix, SyBase, and MS-Access) in support of required functions.
Optimizes the DBMS configuration by adding, removing, or relocating files and structures.
Analyzes DBMS operations to identify bottlenecks and takes action to resolve problems and ensure consistency.
Provides DBMS support on personnel computers, mini computers or mainframe.
Reviews DBMS accounting information and recommends changes in utilization to improve efficiency.
Monitors the amount of storage space consumed, accesses time statistics and frequency of use a specific DBMS program receives.
Provides assistance to higher graded personnel in the testing of new DBMS software applications
Assures the quality and efficiency of multiple DBMS systems by enforcing the prescribed DBMS standards.
Assists in determining equipment demands, number and kinds of records, tables, communication needs, procedures to obtain and organize information and interfaces with other systems.
Provides technical assistance to personnel involved in systems design, programming, hardware selection and adaptation of commercially available software.
Performs other duties as assigned.
