The Supervisory Diagnostic Radiologic Technologist (Assistant Chief) position is located in the Radiology department at the West Haven, CT location. This position is full-time with 40 hours. This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific eligibility requirements per VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Program Approval, award amount (up to $200,000).
Applicants pending the completion of educational or certification/licensure requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but may not be hired until all requirements are met. Basic Requirements: United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy. Certification: All applicants must be certified in general radiologic technology by the American Registry of Radiologic Technology, Radiography (ARRT) (R). Advanced ARRT certification is required for assignments that include magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). Advanced certification indicates that the incumbent can operate independently and has demonstrated specific clinical competency in the appropriate specialty and taken and passed the designated examination. In modalities that require advanced certification, to support their continued development, technologists who do not possess an advanced certification may be provided on the job training with oversight from a certified radiologic technologist. Education: Completion of a full-time training course of at least 24 months in duration (or the equivalent) in a post-high school diagnostic radiologic technology program, evidenced by a certificate or an associate degree, accredited by the Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology (JRCERT) or from other accrediting agencies as recognized by the Department of Education (DOE). English Language Proficiency: DRTs must be proficient in spoken and written English as required by 38 U.S.C. 7402(d), and 7407(d). May qualify based on being covered by the Grandfathering Provision as described in the VA Qualification Standard for this occupation (only applicable to current VHA employees who are in this occupation and meet the criteria). Grade Determinations GS-11 At least one year of experience equivalent to the next lower grade level (GS-09) directly related to the position. Supervisory Diagnostic Radiologic Technologist. This assignment is restricted to employees serving as a full assistant chief to a GS-12 chief radiologic technologist. Individuals in this assignment share full responsibility for managing the radiologic technology section. In addition, the candidate must demonstrate all of the following technical KSAs and demonstrate the potential to acquire the specific KSAs Knowledge of overall radiology department operations, and the ability to judge effectiveness of the operation. Ability to monitor and evaluate subordinate supervisor's performance. Ability to formulate plans, delegate authority, and follow-up on delegated tasks. Physical Requirements: Lift, move or push heavy equipment, specifically cassettes, mobile x-ray equipment, stretchers and/or wheelchairs with patients in them. Assist in lifting patients who may be paralyzed, comatose or otherwise incapacitated, from stretchers or wheelchairs to x-ray tables and back. Provide physical assistance and care for patients in a timely manner in all circumstances. Reach overhead in order to manipulate an x-ray tube.

Coordinate the flow of patients through the radiology department by efficient assignment of work and maximum utilization of staff and radiographic equipment. Expedite the examinations of acutely ill patients by communicating and working with Radiology staff, nursing and radiologists. Work with other services (OR, ER, ICU's) to meet the imaging needs of other services in locations outside the radiology department. Perform radiologic procedures in the diagnostic section when staffing levels require the incumbent to do so technologists to ensure that patient care is continued without delay or interruption. Oversee image transmission and acquisition process to ensure that all radiographic images are transmitted into PAC's system. Participate in process improvement activities, monitoring, reporting and planning. In the absence of the Chief Technologist, performs daily checks of the archive manager reconciliation logs and performs patient/study reconciliation. Check AutoRad Validation patient list and edits demographics as needed. Work Schedule: Monday-Friday. Hours: 6:30am-3:00pm. Compressed/Flexible: Not Available.
