I have one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level (GS-03) or pay band in the federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector performing duties as a Firefighter as part of an emergency response team assisting with tasks of emergency services during a fire or medical rescue providing emergency medical treatment. Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.
You will respond to a scene of an emergency, and follow courses of action, as assigned.
You will monitor a patient's baseline vital signs (e.g., temperature, blood pressure, pulse) during a medical emergency.
You will perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) or automatic external defibrillation (AED) during respiratory and cardiac emergencies.
You will perform firefighting duties as a crew member on structural, aircraft, vehicle, wildland fire, hazardous materials incidents, transportation incidents, ordnance responses and nuclear/radiation emergencies.
You will analyze the environment (e.g., relationship between fuels, topography, wind, humidity) in the fire environment to ensure use of the correct firefighting apparatus.
You will drive a firefighting vehicle (e.g., pumper, aerial ladder truck, rescue truck, brush truck, quick-attack vehicle) to the scene of a fire.
You will establish on-scene control procedures (e.g., zone control, decontamination) in a hazardous material incident.
