Job Description:

The position is located in the Architect of the Capitol; Superintendent, Capitol Building; Assistant Superintendent, Tenant Services and Facilities Operations Division; Maintenance Branch, Masonry Division. The incumbent of the position serves as a Masonry Helper responsible for assisting journey-level Masons with maintenance, repair and construction of structures and surfaces of brick, block, stone, marble and related materials.
You must meet all eligibility and qualifications requirements by the closing date of the job announcement. You must meet the following SCREEN-OUT(S) required for this position. -Ability to do the work without more than normal supervision
Tour of Duty: Monday - Friday - 2am-10:30am, with option of flexible schedule and hours may change based on operational needs. Responsible for assisting masons to care, maintain and repair the interior and exterior marble of the buildings and grounds. Carries materials and tools to the work site; helps lay out the materials and apparatuses, including erecting scaffolding and carrying equipment for core boring through stone and many other types of constructed walls and floors. Assists with cutting, raking, and cleaning surfaces by hand or using high pressure washers; mixing mortar and laying brick and concrete block; the demolishing of walls and staircases and the removal of damaged portions of walls, partitions, or other similar structures in preparation for repair of damage. The incumbent must follow all relevant safety rules, regulations, and standard operating procedures. The employee must utilize knowledge of and must comply with all OSHA safety rules and regulations to ensure that work progresses in a safe manner. Provides or receives training, either on-the-job or through classroom training, to ensure that all safety practices and equipment are fully utilized. Uses required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE). Learns to perform decorative repairs on marble and other stone structures.
