Job Description:

This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific eligibility requirements per VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of your start date. Approval, award amount (up to $200,000) & eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after complete review of the EDRP application.
Applicants pending the completion of educational or certification/licensure requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but may not be hired until all requirements are met. Basic Requirements: United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy. Education: Candidates must meet one of the following: (1) Hold a master's degree or doctoral degree in marriage and family therapy from a program approved by COAMFTE, OR, (2) Hold a master's degree or doctoral degree in marriage and family therapy from a MFT program from a regionally accredited institution, OR, (3) Hold a master's degree or doctoral degree in a comparable mental health degree (Licensed Professional Mental Health Counselor, Social Work, Psychiatric Nursing, Psychology, and Psychiatry) that meets the current VA qualification standard of that profession Licensure: Persons hired or reassigned to MFT positions in the GS-0182 series in VHA must hold a full, current, and unrestricted MFT license to independently practice marriage and family therapy in a State. E May qualify based on being covered by the Grandfathering Provision as described in the VA Qualification Standard for this occupation (only applicable to current VHA employees who are in this occupation and meet the criteria). Grandfather Provision: A Marriage and Family Therapist (Advanced) employed in VHA on the effective date of the qualification standard (04/18/2018) who did not meet all the basic requirements in this standard may not be promoted beyond the full performance level (GS-0182-11) or be newly placed in supervisory or managerial positions until meeting the full qualification requirements. Grade Determinations: In addition to the basic requirements as stated above, the GS-12 Marriage and Family Therapist (Advanced) must meet the following requirements: Education, Experience and Licensure: Candidate must have successfully completed evidence based training in family therapy and must have graduated from a COAMFTE accredited program OR have passed the AMFTRE. Candidate must have at least five years of post-licensed clinical experience in delivery of family systems therapy including one-year equivalent to the GS-11 grade level. This experience must demonstrate the use of an evidence based family therapy model while exhibiting progressive professional competency and expertise. Assignments requiring responsibility for providing clinical supervision must have an AAMFT Approved Supervisor credential. Demonstrated Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: In addition to the experience above, the candidate must demonstrate all of the following KSAs: Ability to provide specialized consultation for complex cases involving individuals, families and/or couples utilizing evidenced-based family systems theory/therapy. Ability to provide crisis intervention which includes assessment, safety planning and complex treatment planning using independent clinical judgment utilizing family systems theory/therapy. Ability to provide family systems therapy, which seeks to address Veterans and their family members on an individual level and deals with interpersonal interactions. The Robert J. Dole VA Medical Center is seeking highly qualified individuals to serve as a Marriage and Family Therapist (MFT) (Advanced) that functions as a therapist in outpatient behavioral health with a special emphasis on women's health as it pertains to offering services to Veterans in the various forms of therapies such as couples, groups, families, and individuals. The duties of the MFT include, but are not limited to: Serving as the sole licensed mental health provider in settings such as Community Based Outpatient Clinics (CBOC), or satellite outpatient clinics, or have responsibility and oversight for a MFT training program, Providing oversight of a MFT training program and providing systemic clinical oversight to unlicensed MFTs, Ensuring clinical consultation to less experienced MFT staff, Developing behavioral health related training curriculum and conducting trainings for clinical staff, Meeting routinely with inter-professional team members and leadership to communicate about program, Veteran, and family issues, Formulating, implementing, and re-evaluating treatment plans through continuous assessment by identifying Veteran challenges, strengths, readiness to change, external influences, and current events, Facilitating clinical supervision for licensure purposes only.
