These positions are located in the Facility Management Department of the Facility Support Directorate located in the Captain James A. Lovell Federal Health Care Center (FHCC) In North Chicago Illinois. The James A. Lovell Federal Health Care Center is larger than just a single facility, but rather a system of facilities throughout Northeastern Illinois which provide medical care and dental services to U.S. Military Veterans, Recruits, Active Duty and eligible beneficiaries,
To qualify for this position you must meet the following requirements. Screen-Out: Must have the ability to do the work of an Industrial Equipment Mechanic without more than normal supervision accomplishing the tasks of the trade. This experience would include independently performing the following duties: installing, repairing, overhauling, aligning, modifying, relocating, troubleshooting and maintaining various types of automated equipment, parts and systems; fabricates new or repair existing system components throughout automated systems and facility. Note: Your resume must support the description above with detailed documentation of the duties you have performed in the positions you have held. AND PHYSICAL EFFORT AND WORK CONDITIONS: Must be capable of lifting, carrying, and moving heavy loads (weighing up to 50 pounds), stooping, climbing, standing, walking, squatting, kneeling, etc. Often times works in cramped spaces which involve muscular strength and sustained physical efforts. May be required to work at variable heights to accomplish assigned tasks. Full use of arms, hands and legs is required to enable incumbent to accomplish these physical demands. Good hearing, corrected with an aid, and good eyesight, corrected with glasses, are required to enable incumbent to perform a satisfactory job. Incumbent will be subject to working in varying temperatures between working in poorly ventilated areas or, at times, under inclement outdoor weather conditions. Majority of work will he performed inside buildings. Hazards include the possibility of electrical shock and burns; injuries to skin, eyes and lungs from refrigerants, gases, chemicals and solvents; and danger of cuts, scratches and bruises from use of various tools while working in cramped quarters, Incumbent will also be exposed to dust, foul odors, damPness and the hazards of power machinery during performance of daily work asSignments. Major duties include but are not limited to: Performs preventive maintenance, repairs, installs, relocates, tests, overhauls, modifies, troubleshoots to determine extent of repairs required and materials needed, and adjusts various types of industrial, medical, engineering and building service equipment; Diagnoses and repairs machinery having interrelated components of electric, electronic, pneumatic and hydraulic operation, including automated conveyor systems, electronic and pneumatic actuators, divert systems, small elevator assemblies, automated tablet and capsule dispensers, automated tablet/capsule counters, automated unit-of-use equipment, bottle sorters, bottle capping system and assorted label printers; Performs preventative maintenance to industrial compressed air equipment and various hydraulic equipment; Utilizes amp meters, volt/ ohm meters to troubleshoot electrical problems in a wide array of industrial and facility systems such as batteries, motor controls, refrigerator/freezers, power supplies, powered logic controllers and wiring systems; Utilizes arc welders, torches, machine tools, micrometers, power drills, saws and grinders to accurately measure and fabricate braces, supports or adjustable workstations, repair machinery, etc.; Lays out, disassembles, installs, aligns, repairs, overhauls, and maintains various types of electronic and pneumatic actuators, divert systems, conveyor systems and elevator/lift assemblies that have complex interrelationships among components; Repairs and maintains mechanical and electronic components of systems that require a broad range of troubleshooting skills to diagnose, maintain, and calibrate/repair; Lays out, disassembles, installs, aligns, repairs, overhauls, and maintains various types of conveyors, mover motors, drive belts, picker assemblies supporting multiple, automated unit-of-use dispensing equipment; Disassembles and repairs general industrial plant machinery, equipment, and systems such as conveyor systems, bridge cranes, air compressors, and dynamometers; Dismantles, moves, and relocates various types of industrial plant machinery and equipment or installs new machinery and equipment; and Performs other related duties as assigned.
