The position is located in the Facility Management Department (FMD) of the Facility Support Directorate located in the Captain James A. Lovell Federal Health Care Center (FHCC) in North Chicago Illinois. The James A. Lovell Federal Health Care Center is larger than just a single facility, but rather a system of facilities throughout Northeastern Illinois which provide medical care and dental services to U.S. Military Veterans, Recruits, Active Duty and eligible beneficiaries.

Physical Requirements/Working Conditions: The work requires a considerable amount of walking, standing, stooping, bending, kneeling, climbing, and working in tiring and/or uncomfortable positions. The incumbent may work from ladders and scaffolding. When operating equipment, the worker may be under a great deal of strain from constant reaching, bending, turning, and moving of hands, arms, feet, legs, and by the vibration and jerking of the equipment. The incumbent carries, lifts, and handles parts and equipment weighing up to 20 pounds and, less often, up to 40 pounds. Occasionally, they lift or move with assistance moderately heaving objects weighing more than 50 pounds. Duties Installation, Maintenance and/or Repair of Utility Systems Work covers the installations, modifications, maintenance, troubleshooting, testing, and repair of electrical wiring, circuits, control systems and associated fixtures in healthcare, industrial, Institutional, office, and residential building applications. Disassembles malfunctioning electrical equipment, repairs and/or replaces defective parts and components, cleans and reassembles. Conducts inspections, operational tests and analysis of electrical systems and/or equipment as directed. Occasion work on high voltage lines and equipment specific to switching cut out switches, replacing fuses or circuit breakers, and clean up and preventative maintenance of transformers and termination pedestals Works from building plans, blueprints, wiring diagrams and schematics, engineering drawings, electrical maintenance and repair manuals to plan and layout the rooting, placement, type, size, gauge, balance, load, continuity, and safe operation of electrical lines, circuits, systems, equipment and controls. Determines and places distribution panels, boxes, fittings and connections, and install wiring, couplings, conduits, relays, fixtures, transformers and other electrical devices including electrical service entrances Installing, modifying, repairing, testing, troubleshooting, and maintaining electrical lines, circuits, systems, and associated fixtures, controls, electro-mechanical equipment's and other electrical equipment. Comprehensive trade knowledge of electrical principles, operations and installations of a variety of complete electrical systems and equipment.
