This announcement will be used to fill Diagnostic Radiologic Technologist vacancies located at one of the Indian Health Service facilities located within the specific locations listed. There MAY NOT be immediate vacancies at all locations. Interested applicants should check with the local Administrative Office concerning immediate employment needs.
To qualify for this position, your resume must state sufficient experience and/or education, to perform the duties of the specific position for which you are applying. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer and part time experience. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week. BASIC REQUIREMENT(S): Public Law 97-35 requires that persons who administer radiologic procedures meet the credentialing standards in 42 CFR Part 75. NOTE: Transcripts/Program Certification required. Education: You must have successfully completed an educational program that meets or exceeds the standards described in that regulation and is accredited by an organization recognized by the Department of Education. Qualifying educational programs for radiography and radiation therapy technology are available in accredited colleges, universities, hospitals, medical schools, or postsecondary technical or vocational schools. Education or training from programs based in hospitals must have been from those hospitals that were accredited at the time of the education or training by the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Hospitals or by the American Osteopathic Association. AND Certification: You must be certified as a radiographer in your field. In addition to the Basic Requirements, you must also meet the Minimum Qualifications stated below. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Your resume must demonstrate the following education and/or experience as outlined below for the grade level(s) you are applying to. Any specialized experience must be equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the tasks as identified. GS-05: One (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-04 grade level performing the following type of work and/or tasks: performing routine diagnostic radiographic procedures; producing digital images of routine views of the body (i.e., chest, joints, feet, hands, long bones of arms and legs) under general supervision of a Radiologist. Or completion of a of at least 24 months' duration in a post-high school radiography program. Or completion of a 1 year course for medical radiologic technicians in the Armed Forces. Or completion of a 4-year course of study leading to a bachelor's degree with courses in radiography, radiation therapy technology, or other related radiographic studies attained from an accredited college, university, medical school, or post- secondary technical or vocational school. GS-06: One (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-05 grade level performing the following type of work and/or tasks: performing or assisting in fluoroscopy examinations such as upper GIs, lower GIs, also special examinations such as bronchograms, arthrograms, IVPs and cystograms. Experience in keeping accurate records of patients' workloads and experience in maintaining patient logs on a daily basis and educating patients on examinations such as preparation. GS-07: One (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-06 grade level performing the following type of work and/or tasks: experience in basic, complex ultrasound examinations, developing and maintaining a quality control system for an automatic film processor on a daily basis to meet all M/M and The JCAHO standards, checking lead aprons and lead gloves for radiation leaks on a quarterly basis which is documented, monitoring all radiographers taken to assure high quality and keeping accurate records for every x-ray. Or completion of one full year (18 semester hours) of graduate level education directly related to the work of the position. GS-08: One (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-07 grade level performing the following type of work and/or tasks: perform computerized axial tomographic scanning of heads and/or bodies; confer with radiologist to establish requirements of standard examinations and determines technical factors, positioning, number and thickness cut of scans, etc. to satisfy requirement; advises radiologist or referring physician of results of examination, provide preliminary diagnostic evaluation, notifies radiologist or referring physician of significant scans requiring their immediate attention and visualization while patient is undergoing examination; prepare contrast material under the direction of radiologic for purpose of performing procedures/exams requiring injectable solutions such as IVP, cystograms, cholangiograms, fistulagrams, arthrograms, and myelograms. Equivalent combinations of education and experience are qualifying for all grade levels and positions for which both education and experience are acceptable. NOTE: Not all locations may have promotion potential to the GS-08. Selective Placement Factor (all grades): Knowledge of Imaging/Xray studies for physicians/providers to use in diagnoses and treatment of patients as evidenced by possession of a current unrestricted American Registry of Radiologic Technologist (ARRT) certification. Selective Placement Factor (GS-08 only): Professional knowledge to effectively operate Computer Tomography (CT) equipment as evidence by possession of licensure, registration or certification in radiography by one of the following: State licensure; registration or certification in radiology by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologist (ARRT); or certification in nuclear medicine technology by ARRT or Nuclear Medicine Technology Certification Board (NMTCB). Time In Grade (Merit Promotion Candidates Only): Federal employees in the competitive service are also subject to the Time-In-Grade Requirements: Merit Promotion (status) candidates must have completed one year of service at the next lower grade level. Time-In-Grade provisions do not apply under the Excepted Service Examining Plan (ESEP). You must meet all qualification requirements within 30 days of the closing date of the announcement.
Performs a variety of routine to complex examinations to assist the Medical Staff in the proper diagnosis and treatment of patients. Monitors all radiographs taken in the department to assure high quality. Maintains records of all functions of this department to assure high quality. Performs a wide variety of complex ultrasound examinations of human subjects to aid in the diagnosis and treatment of disease and injury.
