Job Description:

This position is with the Maintenance and Repair (M&R) work unit, within the Facilities Management Services department service line within the Erie VA Medical Center (VAMC). The incumbent supervises and directs building maintenance, repairs, and installations of the Maintenance Unit, throughout the medical center and associated properties. The incumbent will primarily assigned to the main campus; however, may required to work at the other outlying Erie VAMC clinics and administrative space.

EXPERIENCE: A specific length of training and experience is not required, but you must show evidence of training or experience of sufficient scope and quality of your ability to do the work of this position. SCREEN-OUT ELEMENT: Your qualifications will first be evaluated against the prescribed screen out element, which usually appears as question 1 in the on-line questionnaire. Physical Requirements: See VA Directive and Handbook 5019. Working Conditions: This position requires working overtime as needed, being available to address both planned and unplanned work. The work environment also includes working during off tour periods to address emergent issues that can arise at any day or time. Work involves frequent walking, standing and sedentary desk work. Occasionally requires stooping, bending, working on ladders or scaffolds, or working in cramped or awkward positions. S/he is subject to hazardous conditions, working under extreme temperatures, hot and cold; and in inclement weather. S/he must be aware of this and be able to cope with same. May be exposed to the possibility of cuts, bruised and broken bones. May also be exposed to contagious disease when working in patient areas. Safety procedures must be followed and appropriate protective safe gear must be worn, as required for the specific work area or task. S/he must visit all those areas where subordinates will be working for instruction and/or inspection.
Work Schedule: Monday - Friday 7:00 am - 3:30 pm Position Description Title/PD#: Maintenance Supervisor/PD009080 The Maintenance Supervisor is responsible for buildings including preventive maintenance, repairs, installations, alterations, emergency repairs and renovations of the maintenance work unit, which is comprised of the following trades: electrical, maintenance mechanics, plumber/pipefitters, HV AC technicians, low voltage technician and locksmiths. Major duties Include but not limited to: Performs as a Supervisor, in full charge of the M&R work unit. This consists of the General Repair and Building Maintenance Units, including (but not limited to) Maintenance Mechanics, Carpentry, Plumbing, Electric, Machine, Paint, Data and Wire, Fire-life safety, and HV AC shops. Responsible to oversee, manage and coordinate, schedule, and execute budgets for: multi-discipline repairs, station funded projects (repair and renovation), small NRM work projects and maintenance contracts. Serve as a Contracting Officer Representative (COR) for such projects ensuring credit cards, contracting, fiscal and FMS management policy are followed and complied with. Develops and presents, for final approval, the operations, recurring maintenance, and small project budget for the Maintenance and Repair Work Unit assigned on a long- term, as well as on a day-to-day basis. Informs the Chief Engineer and other higher-level supervisors of the need to revise work schedules and re-estimate labor and other resources. Responsible for planning, tracking and reporting progress on work assignments; request authority to use overtime, equipment, and materials to meet schedules in accordance with facility priorities. responsible to plan for and respond to/address emergent needs in the facility related to the systems and buildings of the Erie V AMC. Ensure that all critical systems remain safely operational to prevent interruption to the hospital operation. Unplanned failures or interruptions to building services shall be addressed and corrected in a timely manner by the M&R supervisor using the resources available to the work unit and the VA policies and direction provided by FMS management. Plan preventative and predictive maintenance to minimize the risk of unplanned building systems failures.
