This position functions as a Maintenance Mechanic Leader for the Truman Memorial Veteran's Hospital in Columbia, MO within the Facilities Management Division. The position performs a variety of Journeyman Maintenance Mechanic functions. Accomplishes all assigned work in accordance with Uniform Plumbing Code(UPC), Uniform Building Code(UBC), Uniform Mechanical Code(UMC), National Electric Code(NEC), National Fire Protection Association(NFPA), and Americans with Disabilities Act(ADA) requirements.

EXPERIENCE: A specific length of training and experience is not required, but you must show evidence of training or experience of sufficient scope and quality of your ability to do the work of this position. Evidence which demonstrates you possess the knowledge, skills, and ability to perform the duties of this position must be supported by detailed descriptions of such on your resume. Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Federal Wage System Qualification Standards. SCREEN-OUT ELEMENT: Your qualifications will first be evaluated against the prescribed screen out element, which usually appears as question 1 in the on-line questionnaire. Those applicants who appear to possess at least the minimal acceptable qualification requirement are considered for further rating; those who do not are rated ineligible and are eliminated. The potential eligibles are then rated against the remainder of the Job Elements: Electronics Mechanics Plumbing and Pipefitting Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religions; spiritual; community; student; social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Physical Requirements/Working Conditions: Considerable standing, stooping, and bending is required. Climbing and working from ladders and scaffolds in stretched, cramped or awkward positions is necessary. Using a hammer and other hand tools necessitates considerable arm and hand movement and dexterity. Items up to 50 pounds are lifted and carried. Items over 50 pounds are infrequently carried or others assist in movement.
The position performs a variety of Journeyman Maintenance Mechanic functions. Duties include but are not limited to: Serve as working leader of multiple employees in accomplishing trades and labor work in support of the Facilities Management Division Passes on instructions from the supervisor, getting work started through the assignment of work to individual group members and providing information on the proper way to perform tasks. Maintain current knowledge sufficient to answer questions from workers on policy and procedure, written instructions and directive and technical orders Ensures safety and housekeeping procedures are being followed and tools are being used properly, providing additional training as necessary Perform work involving a variety of general repairs, maintenance, adjustments, and inspections on industrial equipment, machinery, and systems, answering trouble call repair work orders as needed and aiding in the development of area preventative maintenance schedule Initiate work orders for performance to be done by others Perform variety of maintenance such as: plumbing maintenance, hooks up installed systems such as water heaters, disposal units, and faucets, install wiring, conduit, and fixtures, perform flat work oxygen-acetylene and electric arc welding, install and repair ceilings, assists locksmith as required Performs other duties as assigned Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, 7:30am - 4:00pm Position Description Title/PD#: Maintenance Mechanic Leader/PD101990 Critical Skills Incentive (CSI): Not Approved Relocation/Recruitment Incentives: Not authorized
