WG-4: Has performed basic laborer duties including operating hand and power tools for grounds maintenance and loading and unloading tools and equipment. Experience mowing lawns, weeding, planting and fertilizing grass and using power tools to cut down brush and clear debris. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. You must meet all qualification requirements by the closing date of the announcement. Physical Demands: Works on ladders, scaffolding, platforms, and rooftops, and in cramped and hard-to-reach places. Duties require the employee to stand, stoop, bend, kneel, climb, and work in tiring and uncomfortable positions. Frequently lifts, carries, and sets up materials and equipment weighing up to 40 pounds. Heavier items may occasionally be lifted with assistance of lifting devices or other workers. May work on steep terrain covered slash and debris. Work Environment: Work may be performed indoors or outdoors. Frequently exposed to weather and temperature extremes, draft, noise, dust, and dirt. Work requires the employee to follow proper safety procedures and use standard safety equipment such as gloves, ear protectors, safety glasses, and steel toe shoes to avoid possible hazards in the work area.
Perform manual tasks involving grounds or orchard maintenance such as watering, removing tree branches, vegetative material or rocks to clear area for planting or surveying.
Clear and dispose of debris along trails, in orchard, survey lines or fence lines using chain saws and power and hand tools.
Operate and maintain motorized vehicles and various equipment and tools to complete duties of the position.
Work alone or on a team without normal supervision to complete tasks in a safe manner.
In some locations (Colton) will perform various duties associated with maintaining orchard trees, watering seedlings, mulching, pruning, and weeding.
In some locations (Roseburg, Medford, Salem) will be a member of a Cadastral Survey Crew performing surveying, re-surveying, and subdividing sections of the Public Land Survey System.
