The Eastern Oklahoma VA Health Care System (EOVAHCS) is looking to fill the vacancy at the Ernest Childers VA Clinic for a Pharmacy Assistant Service Chief position. Responsible for coordinating multiple programs in pharmacy service in a medical facility. Serves as the Acting Service Chief in the absence of the Service Chief.

Licensure. Full, current and unrestricted license to practice pharmacy in a State, Territory, Commonwealth of the United States (i.e., Puerto Rico), or the District of Columbia. The pharmacist must maintain current registration if this is a requirement for maintaining full, current, and unrestricted licensure. A pharmacist who has, or has ever had, any license(s) revoked, suspended, denied, restricted, limited, or issued/placed in a probationary status may be appointed only in accordance with the provisions in VA Handbook 5005, Part II, Chapter 3, section B, paragraph 16. May qualify based on being covered by the Grandfathering Provision as described in the VA Qualification Standard for this occupation (only applicable to current VHA employees who are in this occupation and meet the criteria). Grade Determinations: Experience. In addition to the GS-13 requirements, must have 1 year of experience equivalent to the next lower grade level. Demonstrated Knowledge, Skill, and Abilities (KSA). Preferred Experience: 3+ years of experience in a pharmacy setting, with at least 1 year in a supervisory or leadership role. Strong knowledge of pharmacy operations, clinical pharmacy practices, and medication management. Preferred experience with electronic health record (EHR) systems and pharmacy management software. Knowledge of contemporary hospital/clinical practice and service. Actively participates in the medical center Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee and serves as Pharmacy Representative in other medical center, VISN, and National Committees, as assigned by the Chief of Pharmacy. Has knowledge of Pharmacy automation and works with the ADPAC to provide oversight and evaluation of all new automation initiatives within Pharmacy Service and coordinates these projects with other affected services in the medical center. Works with the Chief of Pharmacy Services to establish and manage sharing agreements/contracts with various retail pharmacies in support of the Community Based Outpatient Clinics (CBOC). Has completed or will complete within the first 90 days of appointment the Contracting Officer Representative training for pharmacy services. Assists in managing and maintaining all contract related issues associated with pharmacy services. Serves as Acting Chief of Pharmacy Service in the absence of the Chief of Pharmacy. Interviews employee candidates, recommends appointments, and evaluates employee performance. Initiates action based on employee's performances as necessitated, including documentation and recommendation for awards, counseling, and disciplinary actions. Effectively maintains resource accountability utilizing sound fiscal accounting techniques and Pharmacoeconomics principles. Assists in the direction of front-line supervisors over the inpatient, ambulatory care, supply, and administrative sections of Pharmacy Service. Has knowledge of VHA Directives and Handbooks regarding procedures, methods, and working schedules for the efficient accomplishment of pharmacy operations. Knows of and complies with the labor-management agreement for Bargaining Unit Employees. Approves or disapproves vacation requests, comp. time requests or other requests complying with union contracts. Assists the Chief of Pharmacy Services to develop and maintain a system of internal reviews that ensure service programs operate at a satisfactory level of performance and are in compliance with regulatory and accrediting bodies such as OIG and the Joint Commission.
