Organizational Location: This position is with the Department of Homeland Security, within U.S. Customs and Border Protection, U.S. Border Patrol, El Centro Sector, Mission Readiness Operations Division, located in Imperial, CA.
Experience: You qualify for the GS-09 grade level if you possess 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level, performing duties such as: Providing administrative analytical support for the organization. Supporting the director by, coordinating tasks to appropriate staff element, monitoring progress, and assisting in of responses to meet suspense dates. Providing administrative guidance and support to ensure efficient operations in administrative and personnel matters throughout the organization. Monitoring and reviewing time, accountability, travel, and tasking actions. NOTE: Your resume must explicitly indicate how you meet this requirement, otherwise you will be found ineligible. Education Substitution: Successful completion of a master's or equivalent graduate degree, 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree, or a LL.B. or J.D. from an accredited college or university may substitute for the experience required at this level. This education must demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work. Check with your school to determine how many credit hours comprise a year of graduate education. If that information is not available, use 18 semester or 27 quarter hours. Combining Experience and Education: To combine your education and experience, you must convert each to a percentage, and then add the percentages. The combined total of your percentage of education and experience must equal at least 100% in order to qualify. If your education is currently described in quarter hours, convert the quarter hours into semester hours by multiplying the quarter hours by the fraction 2/3. To calculate your percentage of graduate education, divide the number of graduate semester hours by 18. To determine your percentage of qualifying experience, you must divide your total number of months of qualifying experience by the required number of months of experience. This position will allow you to utilize your expertise in various administrative areas to provide project-related, advisory and technical services to CBP management. This position starts at a salary of $71,244.00 (GS-09, Step 1) to $92,615.00 (GS-09, Step 10) with promotion potential to $112,053.00 (GS-11 Step 10). As a Staff Assistant, you will be performing a full range of administrative, research and analytical duties, special assignments, related to the missions and functions of the office. Your duties and responsibilities will include: Responding to administrative and programmatic problems brought to the attention of the manager. Relieving the manager of unnecessary interruptions and demands on their time by handling matters of a general nature. Coordinating a wide spectrum of projects within the office including conducting research on administrative projects, analysis of data to ensure relevant data is present, and providing comprehensive report. Monitoring office administrative functions, transactions, and preparing a variety of reports utilizing various databases and automated systems. Providing information and serving as a source of referral to the proper official or other agencies. Being responsible for ensuring that issues or problems are addressed by subordinate offices and expedite as necessary. Arranging for the preparation of briefing materials, talking points, and executive summaries to be viewed by the manager. Working closely with members of the manager's staff and with others outside the office to track projects and ensure implementation dates are met.
