This position performs as a Laundry Worker assigned to the Environmental Management Service (EMS) at the Department of Veterans Affairs Sierra Nevada Health Care System. This posting is for a third shift position.
To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement. EXPERIENCE: A specific length of training and experience is not required, but you must show evidence of training or experience of sufficient scope and quality of your ability to do the work of this position. Evidence which demonstrates you possess the knowledge, skills, and ability to perform the duties of this position must be supported by detailed descriptions of such on your resume. Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Federal Wage System Qualification Standards. SCREEN-OUT ELEMENT: Your qualifications will first be evaluated against the prescribed screen out element, which usually appears as question 1 in the on-line questionnaire. Those applicants who appear to possess at least the minimal acceptable qualification requirement are considered for further rating; those who do not are rated ineligible and are eliminated. The potential eligibles are then rated against the remainder of the Job Elements: Follow Directions Handle Weights and Loads Reliability And Dependability Textiles Work Practices Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religions; spiritual; community; student; social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must indicate clearly the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position and the number of hours a week spent in such employment.
Major duties include but not limited to: Processes, delivers, issues, picks up, and stores linens and employee uniforms, as well as the tracking of incoming garments and linens, inventory and record keeping of curtains, slings and other items as required Fills linen carts with required amounts of linen in accordance with established quotas and adjusts quotas when appropriate Conducts and/or assists in the performance of regularly scheduled linen inventories and takes orders via telephone for linen adjustments Maintains current vendor invoices to correct any linen problems and provide any other pertinent information relative to linen/uniform management and informs appropriate supervisor Delivers clean linen to clinical areas throughout the VA of Sierra Nevada Healthcare System Counts incoming linen and reports discrepancies to appropriate supervisor Unloads linen carts onto other linen carts and shelves designated for this purpose Sorts and stores linen in accordance with the Service's established by infection control policy. Due to the number of delivery and pickup sites, the incumbent is required to maintain uniform records Issues uniforms to new employees and assists new employees with employee uniform fittings Signs-off for employees clearing the station, or, in the case of lost or damaged uniforms notifies Environmental Management Services for issuance of bills of collection Stamps uniforms and various garments using various types of heat press machines Collects and inventories all linen items in the textile care department Work Schedule: Monday - Friday 4:30pm - 1:00am Position Description Title/PD#: Laundry Worker/PD01624A Physical Requirements: Required to be on his/her feel the majority of the time, and must be able to bend, squat, lift, and climb ladders. Required to frequently life bundles weighing 25 pound, occasionally over 50 pounds. Must possess quickness in hand arm movements to meet production standards. Must be able to push, pull, and guide wheeled linen carts weighing up to 1000 pounds.
