This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific eligibility requirements per VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Program Approval, award amount (up to $200,000) & eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after review of the EDRP application. Former EDRP participants ineligible to apply.
Applicants pending the completion of educational or certification/licensure requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but may not be hired until all requirements are met. Dentist Basic Requirements A degree of Doctor of Dental Surgery or dental medicine resulting from a course of education in dentistry. The degree must have been obtained from one of the schools approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed. Approved schools are (1) United States and Canadian schools of dentistry listed by the Commission on Dental Accreditation(CODA), in the list published for the year in which the course of study was completed.(2) Schools (including foreign schools) accepted by the licensing body of a State, Territory, or Commonwealth (i.e., Puerto Rico), or the District of Columbia as qualifying for full and unrestricted licensure provided the licensure requirements include a written examination measuring science achievement and a performance examination measuring clinical competence certification, and must obtain a copy of the ECFMG certificate, if claimed by the applicant. ~AND~ Completed, or you are currently completing, a residency program in general practice or specialty, or comparable experience as a dentist actively involved in treating medically compromised patients. ~AND~ Currently hold, or will hold, a current, full and unrestricted license to practice dentistry in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia. Note: Dentists must maintain current registration in the State of licensure if this is a requirement for continuing active, current licensure. Preferred Experience: Prosthodontics experience and experience working with medically compromised patients. Requires lifting and or carrying 15-44 pounds; pushing and pulling (up to 2 hours); frequent reaching above shoulder; use of fingers and both hands; walking and standing up to 8 hours and kneeling. Ability for rapid mental and muscular coordination simultaneously. Near vision correctable at 13" to 16" to Jaeger 1 to 4. Far visions correctable in one eye to 20/20 and to 20/40 in the other. Must have depth perception and ability to distinguish basic colors and shades of colors. Hearing aid is permitted.
The duties and responsibilities of the General dentist provider includes, but are not limited to, the following: Perform a full range of professional dental procedures in connection with the treatment of commonly encountered dental diseases or dental health problems requiring standard corrective, restorative, surgical, or preventive measures Diagnostic skills and the ability to triage, diagnose, and manage a broad spectrum of urgent and chronic dental problems in a patient population with a high percentage of medically compromised individuals Diagnose pathological or irregular oral conditions and provide appropriate treatment or referral Trained and competent in providing Basic life Support (BLS) Make oral and radiographic examinations of the oral cavity Use modern technology including use of CBCT and intra oral scanner. Treatment planning complex cases Preventive dentistry procedures including cleaning and polishing teeth Administer local anesthesia Perform prosthetic dentistry to include immediate dentures, full dentures, partial dentures, crowns and fixed bridge work, implant restorations - including crowns, bridges, partials, and dentures, etc Provisional splinting Occlusal Adjustment Implant dentistry skills including proper patient selection and restoration of implants Perform routine endodontic procedures on single and multi-canal teeth Post and cores Perform routine surgical procedures within the scope of a general dentist including periodontal and oral surgery Perform routine and complex restoration of teeth Perform simple and complex extractions of teeth Root planning and curettage Management of odontogenic infections Perform Alveoloplasty and other routine surgical procedures Perform simple biopsies Provide timely, accurate and complete record documentation utilizing the computerized medical record system Provide appropriate consults and referrals to medical and dental specialists Complete community care consults timely and accurately for veterans receiving care at RJD VA and through community care vendors Must possess computer skills including Windows based programs to include Microsoft word, power point, and outlook The incumbent may be assigned administrative or managerial responsibilities through participation in clinical, educational, and administrative committees, task groups or special projects Responsible for attending department, facility and/or education meetings The incumbent will comply with processes and procedures including hospital infection control policies, facility SOP's, CDC guidelines, OSHA guidelines, radiation safety, patient safety, oral health education, knowledge and application of HIPPA/Security regulations, and compliance with all VHA policy Practice in accordance with accepted professional standards, organizational values, and with a commitment to excellent customer service Possess a good work ethic and have strong communication skills The incumbent must be physically, emotionally, and mentally stable in order to efficiently perform the essential functions of this position without hazard to themselves or others. Working closely with others and working alone Be a team player willing to work with general dentists/specialist to achieve optimal results Education and Supervision of Dental Residents and Dental Hygiene Students Incumbent will also perform other related duties as assigned.
