This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific individual eligibility requirements in accordance with VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Program Approval, award amount (up to $200,000) and eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after complete review of the EDRP application.

Have a master's degree in social work from a school of social work fully accredited by the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE). Graduates of schools of social work that are in candidacy status do not meet this requirement until the School of Social Work is fully accredited. Persons hired or reassigned to social worker positions in the GS-0185 series in VHA must be licensed or certified by a state to independently practice social work at the master's degree level. VHA may waive the licensure or certification requirement for persons who are otherwise qualified, pending completion of state prerequisites for licensure/certification examinations. Total Rewards of a Allied Health Professional The Social Worker serves as the primary contact, liaison, and representative locally and at the state level to lead the development of affordable housing options in the Alexandria VAHCS catchment area for homeless veterans. Duties include, but are not limited to: Maximizes existing housing resources and expands housing opportunities across disabilities in collaboration with community housing partners, stakeholders, and advocacy groups. Negotiates with property owners and managers and plays a lead role in developing housing options for the disabled population. Maintains a housing directory, which at a minimum, includes documentation of all contact with housing providers, including name of contact, address, phone, date of contact, and results of the contact. Oversees apartment repair/improvements with landlords; assists with obtaining furnishings for Veterans' apartments from community resources. Oversees contacts with realtors, brokers/developers, and landlords; preferential rents, renewals, and terminations; maintains documentation and databases regarding leases, rents, vacancies, and tenant-related activity; supports and monitors Section 8 Housing Choice Vouchers application process; oversees preparation of apartments for new tenants, inspections. Assists Veterans in obtaining deposit assistance for HUD-VASH housing, including collection of required documents, matching the Veteran with the appropriate funding source, and follow-up with the funding source to expedite payment to the landlord. Provides assistance to Veterans in their housing search, including but not limited to the following: identifying available housing, contacting landlords to arrange a tour of the property, providing transportation to Veterans to tour the property, and assisting the Veteran in completing the lease application process. Responds to Veterans housing complaints and landlord complaints; coordinates with HUD-VASH Case Managers and landlords; liaisons with the local PHA to streamline the housing application and inspection process; monitors rent arrears and/or credits, including tenant notifications and oversees tenant housing/property legal actions regarding legal evictions, as directed.
