About the Position: This position is located at the Naval Hospital Bremerton, DIR of Clinical Support, Lab/Clinical Pathology, Bremerton Washington. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes working in clinical laboratories in key areas of work such as chemistry, hematology, or microbiology involving a range of specialized tasks and responsibilities such as conducting tests on blood, bodily fluids, and/or tissue samples, gathering and properly labeling samples, and accurately documenting and interpreting test results. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next grade/level position in the federal service (GS-06). OR Education: One full year of graduate level education in a field directly related to the work of the position, such as Medical Laboratory Technology, Microbiology, Chemistry, or Biology or a related field. (Note: You must attach a copy of your transcripts.). NOTE: You must attach a copy of your transcripts for verification. OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) by 18. Add the two percentages. Certification Requirement: Certification from the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) or American Medical Technologist (AMT) or American Association of Bioalnalysts is required within 24 months.
Independently perform moderately difficult and complex laboratory testing, examinations, and/or procedures in Hematology/Coagulation, Chemistry, Microbiology, Blood, Urinalysis, and Diagnostic Immunology.
Sets up equipment, instruments, and apparatus'.
Manages patient records utilizing medical database systems.
Prepares specimens and obtains supplies.
Performs inventory and ordering procedures.
Stains smears and prepares reagents, control, and calibrators.
