Job Description:

This vacancy is for a Equipment Specialist, GS-1670-12 in the C5ISC Services Center, Engineering Service Division, Technical Services Branch, Equipment Spec and Provisioning Section located in Portsmouth, VA.
To qualify at the GS-12 grade level, applicants must have at least one (1) full year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-11 grade level in the federal sector. Specialized experience is experience that has equipped you with the particular ability, skill, and knowledge to successfully perform the duties of this position and is typically in or related to this line of work. Specialized experience must include the following: Interpreting equipment and systems documentation (work orders, drawings etc.) to make technical recommendations regarding such equipment.; and Conducting acquisition of various equipment; and Complete provisioning processes to enroll the types and quantities of equipment, into the stock system, to support operational systems throughout their life cycle. NOTE: Education can be substituted for experience at this grade level. National Service Experience (i.e., volunteer experience): Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional, philanthropic, religious, spiritual, community, student, social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. The Office of Personnel management (OPM) must authorize employment offers made to current or former political appointees. You will serve as a Equipment Specialist, GS-1670-12 and be responsible for providing advisory services to those who design, test, produce, procure, supply, operate, repair, or dispose of equipment and/or maintenance programs and techniques based on a practical knowledge of the equipment including its design, production, operational, and maintenance requirements. Being a Coast Guard civilian makes you a valuable member of the Coast Guard team. Typical work assignments include: Providing expert technical advice, assistance and specialized equipment knowledge regarding the utilization, reliability, maintainability, repairability, accountability, authorization, disposition and procurement of equipment. Conducting extensive technical evaluation of the performance, reliability, and maintainability of systems equipment. Performing technical analysis of engineering drawings, military specifications, blueprints, commercial catalogs, and other supporting documentation. Conducting technical investigations of the equipment problems and develops and submits technical reports, with recommended corrections for deficiencies. Performing detailed market analysis regarding the utilization, reliability, maintainability, repairability, accountability, authorization, disposition and procurement of equipment.
