Job Description:

Responsible for both boiler and chiller repair and operations at the ECHCS owned facilities. Starts, operates, adjusts, stops, maintains, and performs various operational repairs on one or more, multiple fuels power boilers, HVAC systems, and associated auxiliary equipment (including water softeners).

EXPERIENCE: A specific length of training and experience is not required, but you must show evidence of training or experience of sufficient scope and quality of your ability to do the work of this position. Evidence which demonstrates you possess the knowledge, skills, and ability to perform the duties of this position must be supported by detailed descriptions of such on your resume. Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Federal Wage System Qualification Standards. SCREEN-OUT ELEMENT: Your qualifications will first be evaluated against the prescribed screen out element, which usually appears as question 1 in the on-line questionnaire. Those applicants who appear to possess at least the minimal acceptable qualification requirement are considered for further rating; those who do not are rated ineligible and are eliminated. The potential eligibles are then rated against the remainder of the Job Elements. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religions; spiritual; community; student; social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Duties include, but are not limited to: Troubleshoot, repair, modify, overhaul, test, calibrate, and install a variety of multi-component industrial and precision instruments and equipment. Installs, repairs, and calibrates analyzers for turbidity, chlorine and pH as well as the trend recorders associated with these analyzers. Works alternating current (AC) electrical systems and circuits. Troubleshoots and repairs a single to three-phase electricity add-a-phase converters with transformers, rectifiers, capacitors, relays, contacts, starters, etc. Maintains and troubleshoots systems ranging from large primary voltages to small millivolt/milliamp digital circuit boards, and touch screen equipment. Responsible in Denver for the safe operation of the central heating plant which consists of three International 300 horsepower 11000 lb/hr-water tube boilers. Response in Aurora for the safe operation of four Cleaver-Brooks fire tube boilers, 700 horsepower, 25,000 lb/hr steam. In Denver, responsible for the operation of 3 Trane centrifugal chillers ranging from 500 tons-800 tons and 1 McCuay recriprocating chiller for the Operating rooms emergency back up. In Aurora, response for four 1300 ton Trane centrifugal chillers. Perform operator-level preventive and corrective maintenance as well as repairs to chillers, boilers, pumps, steam traps, and other associated equipment. After normal business hours, the operator will receive all trouble calls, and then make the determination to either wait till the next business day or elevate the call for repair. May be called upon to perform duties normally considered outside his field of expertise, exercising judgment and using creativity to solve problems.
