This INDUSTRIAL HYGIENIST is located is located in the Medical Group at an Air National Guard Wing and is part of the CA 144 FW.
INDUSTRIAL HYGIENIST, GS-0690-11: Must have at least one year of specialized experience, equivalent to at least the GS-09 level, or equivalent pay band in other pay systems in the Federal government. This experience may also have been obtained in the private sector, but must demonstrate that it is comparable to the GS grade indicated. Specialized experience may have been demonstrated by performing duties such as: Researching industrial operations and developing, implementing, and executing surveillance strategies, inspections and evaluations of operational facilities and various activities to detect and eliminate health hazards; Experience developing, implementing, and managing the Federal Hazard Communication Standard as mandated by OSHA; Experience providing reports of findings with recommended preventative/corrective measures to the installation commander and other state and federal agencies (i.e. OSHA, Department of Transportation, and EPA). THIS IS A T5 EXCEPTED SERVICE, PERMANENT POSITION. The primary purpose of the INDUSTRIAL HYGIENIST, GS-0690-11, is to provide a professional Industrial Hygienist to plan, schedule, execute, manage, and administer the installation-wide Industrial Hygiene/Bioenvironmental Engineering Program (IH/BEE), which includes occupational health/industrial hygiene, radiation safety, and environmental monitoring to maintain and promote the health and well-being of military and technician personnel. Research industrial operations and develops, implements, and executes surveillance strategies, inspections and evaluations of operational facilities and various activities to detect and eliminate health hazards. Identifies potential physical, biological, and chemical health hazards in the workplace; evaluates exposure to workers and prescribes corrective measures which may include changing work processes/procedures, adding/modifying engineering systems, making chemical substitutions, or using personal protective equipment. Monitors the abatement of occupational health hazards to ensure corrective action has been initiated. Manages and assesses installation environmental sampling, analysis and monitoring requirements, and performs ambient, source and substance tests and monitoring. Compiles and evaluates pollution emission inventories to include air, wastewater and hazardous materials/wastes. Reviews and approves issues related to hazardous material including personal protective equipment (PPE) and disposal requirements. Performs leak tests of incoming and outgoing materials, takes swipe samples of radioactive waste, analyzing and documenting results. Writes guidance to users of radioactive materials to ensure related documentation is complete and properly prepared. Conducts the base potable water vulnerability assessment by collecting samples and performing water quality analyses and provides a force health protection analyses to wing management. The water vulnerability assessment includes formal written assessment of the potential risks associated with each base. Serves as advisor to state occupational safety and health councils, member/advisor on management boards and committees concerning industrial health and bioenvironmental issues. The position resides within the infrastructure and support functions of the state National Guard; the incumbent is not subject to mobilization, nor is the work described part of the military mission; and the incumbent does not perform a key advisory or essential administrative role that is inherently military. In addition, the position must meet one of the following: It does not have a comparable military function; the position is required in full-time (civilian) role when the organization, or similar military position, is mobilized to perform continuing post-mobilization functions; or the position requires a skill or competency that necessitates technical expertise or professional qualifications that cannot be readily found in the military structure of the state military force.
