The incumbent serves as a Laundry Machine Operator for Environmental Management Service, Textile Care Facility at the Oklahoma City VA Health Care System.
To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 07/17/2025. EXPERIENCE: A specific length of training and experience is not required, but you must show evidence of training or experience of sufficient scope and quality of your ability to do the work of this position. Evidence which demonstrates you possess the knowledge, skills, and ability to perform the duties of this position must be supported by detailed descriptions of such on your resume. Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Federal Wage System Qualification Standards. SCREEN-OUT ELEMENT: Your qualifications will first be evaluated against the prescribed screen out element, which usually appears as question 1 in the on-line questionnaire. Those applicants who appear to possess at least the minimal acceptable qualification requirement are considered for further rating; those who do not are rated ineligible and are eliminated. Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must indicate clearly the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position and the number of hours a week spent in such employment. Physical Requirements/Working Conditions: Incumbent stands or walks on concrete floors continuously. Eye-hand coordination is required to lift bulk linen items weighing over fifty (50) pounds. There is continuous bending, stooping, walking and standing required. The laundry facility provides a hot and humid atmosphere and a high level of noise. The potential exists for cuts, bruises, and minor shocks. Incumbent may also be subject to moving overhead equipment, steam, exposure to laundry chemical products (detergents, bleaches, etc.) and is routinely subjected to contaminated linen/laundry items which may be infectious. Use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) to include eye protection or face shields, gowns, gloves and safety footwear are imperative to protect the incumbent.
Scope of Duties: Must be capable of programming microprocessor controls for a 200-, 400-, and 800-pound side loading washer extractors which are equipped with an automatic supply dispenser, automatic steam injection, two speed extractor and manual soap chute. Load and unload washers using the Gardner Overhead Monorail Hoisting and Stationary System. Must be able to select washing formulas based on the soil condition of the items to be processed. Monitors automatic laundry product/chemical dispenses to assure washers receive proper quantities of detergents, sours, softeners, and bleach as well as sanitary agents in the appropriate time sequence. Observes washers and dryers during operation for possible malfunctions. Must be able to operate commercial dryers, small piece folders, blanket folders, cross folders/feeders, blanket folders, flatwork ironers, sheet separators and laundry chemical product dispensers. Perform other related functions such as checking water levels, checking soiled linen chutes, transporting soiled linen to sorting area and sorting linen into appropriate category for processing. I Will also dye linen as required by adding correct amount of measured dye, monitor washroom supply needs, record daily production, and logs related equipment malfunctions for maintenance personnel. Performs additional duties as assigned.
