The incumbent serves as a Boiler Plant Operator, WG-5402-09 in Facilities Management Service, Engineering Section. This position is located at the Aleda E. Lutz VA Medical Center, 1500 Weiss Street, Saginaw, MI 48602. Incumbent reports to the Utility Systems Supervisor.

SCREEN-OUT ELEMENT: Your qualifications will first be evaluated against the prescribed screen out element, which usually appears as question 1 in the on-line questionnaire. Those applicants who appear to possess at least the minimal acceptable qualification requirement are considered for further rating; those who do not are rated ineligible and are eliminated. Major Duties Include: Operates Hot Water Boilers and Electric Steam Generators. Maintains safe steam pressure, water level, and air pressure. Maintains proper temperature in deaeration tank by adjustment of regulating valves. Monitors constant supply of treatment to deaeration tank and Electric Steam Generators Inspects fire and digital readings on oxygen analyzer to insure proper and efficient combustion (fuel air ratio). Inspects operates, and maintains the steam generation/distribution system throughout the Energy Center. Inspects Decentralized Boilers and auxiliary equipment every four hours. Troubleshoots equipment malfunctions, pinpoints trouble areas. Performs equipment preventive maintenance inspections (PMI) as indicated on the PMI sheets, documents result of inspections and initiates necessary corrective action; such as tightening packing glands, cleaning equipment and other areas, performing oil lubrications, correcting valve settings (open/closed), etc. Work Schedule: 8:00AM -4:00PM Monday-Friday Position Description Title/PD#: Boiler Plant Operator/PD92127A Physical Requirements: Requires lifting 50 pounds or more of heavy equipment and materials. Required to frequently climb twenty (20) feet vertically to check controls and make necessary adjustments and repairs
