The Southern Arizona VA Healthcare System is seeking highly energetic candidates. This position is in Tucson Veterans Affairs Medical Center, Environmental Management Service, Tucson, Arizona. The incumbent is responsible for receiving, sorting, and marking soiled linen and apparel; processing flatwork and roughdry items; and assembling and issuing clean laundry. Motor vehicle operation to complete daily duties.

Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Federal Wage System Qualification Standards. SCREEN-OUT ELEMENT: Your qualifications will first be evaluated against the prescribed screen out element, which usually appears as question 1 in the on-line questionnaire. Those applicants who appear to possess at least the minimal acceptable qualification requirement are considered for further rating; those who do not are rated ineligible and are eliminated. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Incumbent works in the laundry/linen unit and will demonstrate strict observance to proper infection control practices to include separation of clean and soiled work areas. This unit is responsible for all linen orders being distributed to the Medical Center. Duties consist of: Incumbent must possess and maintain a valid driver's license. CDL is not required. Assembling established linen requirements from bulk quantities of standard use items received from the awarded contracting service Incumbents are required to be able to enter linen data into Microsoft Excel spreadsheets for tracking and trending Drive the vehicle between the laundry building and main hospital area. Each individual linen cart will be loaded, tagged, then covered to prevent contamination in transit. Carts will then be loaded onto trailers or trucks (in a prescribed manner to conserve space) for a specified destination Assurance that at no time will soil linens share the same space with clean linens. Delivery of carts, weighing 400lbs to 46+ destinations with SAVAHCS Restocking of scrub "vending machines" in 4 different locations Ensure the laundry space is cleaned daily Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, 6:00 a.m. - 2:30 p.m. Position Description Title/PD#: Laundry Worker (Motor Vehicle Operator)/PD13764A Physical Requirements: Work requires good coordination and good physical condition. Will be lifting stacks and bundles of linens constantly, weighing up to 30 pounds. Will be walking, stooping, and bending frequently. Helps pushes heavy carts off and onto trucks and trailers, weighing 400 to 1200 lbs. WORKING CONDITIONS: Work is performed inside and out. Frequent transitions from heated interior space to frigid exterior temperatures are common during winter months. There exists a potential for exposure to infectious diseases in patient areas while handling soiled laundry. Working in storage areas and loading dock, incumbent will be exposed to drafty, varying temperature changes throughout tour of duty. Works around moving carts in a noisy, hot, humid environment.
