The Air Conditioning Equipment Operator operates, maintains, services, calibrates, troubleshoots, repairs and modifies on a Journeyman level with Universal EPA Certification to conform to specifications and requirements of equipment associated with the Johnson Metasys Facility Management System, and the Honeywell Central Monitoring Equipment.
To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement. EXPERIENCE: A specific length of training and experience is not required, but you must show evidence of training or experience of sufficient scope and quality of your ability to do the work of this position. Evidence which demonstrates you possess the knowledge, skills, and ability to perform the duties of this position must be supported by detailed descriptions of such on your resume. Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Federal Wage System Qualification Standards. SCREEN-OUT ELEMENT: Your qualifications will first be evaluated against the prescribed screen out element, which usually appears as question 1 in the on-line questionnaire. Those applicants who appear to possess at least the minimal acceptable qualification requirement are considered for further rating; those who do not are rated ineligible and are eliminated. Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must indicate clearly the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position and the number of hours a week spent in such employment.
The Air Conditioning Equipment Operator is responsible for 5 buildings with 1,246,000 square feet, whose systems include centralized multiple zone systems, 4,380 tons of 6 centrifugal chillers, 3 cooling towers, and 1 screw type, 74 centrifugal pumps, 70 air handling units, and 8 Complex Air Conditioning Systems serving critical medical equipment. The incumbent must have a thorough knowledge of air conditioning and refrigeration equipment and auxiliary equipment. The duties of the Air Conditioning Equipment Operator include, but are not limited to: Analyze the cooling load and determine if the equipment needs to maintain comfort conditions and minimum load conditions to prevent excessive electrical demand and KWH consumption. Maintain temperature to within one degree and maintain humidity, and positive or negative pressure to specified limits, troubleshoot, and make emergency repairs to various equipment. In the absence of written procedure, make emergency repairs shutdown equipment or adjust other equipment to bypass the problem until the equipment can be repaired. Maintain complete knowledge of zones and equipment serving them in each building in order to start or stop supply of exhaust fans in case of smoke, fire, or other emergency. Monitor and respond to and either reset alarm upon return to normal or repair equipment to return to normal. Respond to all fire alarms to assist the fire department personnel. ***The Air Conditioning Equipment Operator must possess and maintain a Universal Refrigerant Certification. You must submit a copy of this certification with your application to be considered.*** Work Schedule: Shift (1) Sunday thru Tuesday 8am-4pm/ Off Wednesday-Thursdays/ Friday and Saturday 12am- ~or~ Shift (2) Sunday and Monday 4pm-12am / Off Tuesday and Wednesday / Thursday thru Saturday 8am-4pm Position Description Title/PD#: Air Conditioning Equipment Operator-OCA/PD00007A Physical Requirements: Frequently works in confined areas in and around boilers and support equipment. Work requires moderate to strenuous effort and long periods of walking, standing, climbing, bending and crouching. Must be able to lift and carry heavy parts and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds. Makes repairs from ladders, scaffolding, and platforms. Stretches, bends and crawls through small openings such as a 12"x16" elliptical opening. Must be in good physical condition since much of this work involves walking, climbing (approximately 30 feet high), stooping and working and cramped positions, lifting, pulling and pushing. Frequently work is performed under hazardous conditions such as high voltage, steam, gases, vibrations, high level noises, etc.
