Job Description:
The position is located in the Housekeeping Dept at the Santa Fe Service Unit in Santa Fe, NM. Incumbent provides cleaning duties in assigned/designated areas. Scrubs, strips, waxes, and polishes floors. Keeps restrooms in clean, orderly, and sanitary condition.. Performs laundry services as needed for the facility. Stores stock of cleaning materials and equipment needed to do the work. Position reports to the Housekeeping Supervisor.

Competencies/Abilities Rated: Ability to do the work of the position without more than normal supervision. Ability to interpret instructions, specifications, etc. (other than blueprints). Ability to use and maintain tools and equipment. Dexterity and safety. Work practices (includes keeping neat, clean and in order). Physical Effort: Moderate physical effort is required continuously in performance of manual cleaning tasks. Walking, standing long periods, requires bending, lifting, pushing, and climbing. There are occasional short periods of more physical effort when moving furniture and lifting of items over 50 pounds. Working Conditions: Work is done inside with adequate lighting, ventilation and occasionally outside when washing of windows, and outdoor clinics. Will be exposed to some mechanical hazards, some moving objects, crowded rooms/areas, and wet slippery floor surfaces, and icy streets. Will be subject to chapped hands from working with detergents and water. Subject to danger from cuts, bruises, and minor shocks from working with power machines. Subject to exposure to diseases being treated in the hospital, as well as blood and other bodily fluids. Time In Grade Federal employees in the competitive service are also subject to the Time-In-Grade Requirements: Merit Promotion (status) candidates must have completed one year of service at the next lower grade level. Time-In-Grade provisions do not apply under the Excepted Service Examining Plan (ESEP). This position is restricted to persons entitled to Veterans' Preference; if there are no Veteran's preference eligible applicants available, non-preference applicants may be considered. Cleans various areas including inpatient rooms and bathrooms, public restrooms, exam rooms, walls, floors, furnishings, equipment, windows, offices, outside entrances, etc. Responds to emergency cleaning needs. Vacuums, sweeps and mops floors and maintains floors. Removes non-infectious and infectious waste. Mixes and uses chemicals.
