This position is located in the National Defense Reserve Fleet (NDRF), Office of Ship Operations, Office of the Deputy Associate Administrator for Federal Sealift, Office of the Associate Administrator for Strategic Sealift, Maritime Administration (MARAD).
Qualifications for the position are based on the training, experience, or other requirements that determine which applicants would be able to perform satisfactorily in the position to be filled. To qualify for the WS- 07, your experience should include experience equal or equivalent to the following: Ability to coordinate cleaning and coating operations on topside superstructures of ships. Ability to oversee job scheduling, ensure job completion within timelines, and manage budgets. Ability to apply knowledge of Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) standards for safe shipboard work and comply with environmental regulations. This position is established to supervise employees involved in working with a crew of mechanics, riggers, and laborers assigned in two major programs aboard vessels in the NDRF: deck and hull coating maintenance; and implementation of Marad's Storm Water Pollution Prevention Plan (SWPPP). The Preservation Servicer Supervisor: Provides technical and advisory services regarding shipboard preservation maintenance. Observes work in progress to anticipate and resolve problems, reassigns personnel within department, and coordinates work among other supervisors to meet schedules or to accomplish unanticipated work. Takes an active part in the Fleet's safety program and instructs subordinates in the strict enforcement of safety rules and regulations. Supervises the implementation of the Reserve Fleet's Storm Water Pollution Prevention Plan (SWPPP), including regular and periodic inspections of coating conditions and potential pollution sources aboard ship such as leaking machinery, and installing and maintaining Best Management Practices (BMPs). The ideal candidate has a good general knowledge of shipboard construction and layout, an excellent knowledge in the use of all types of tools and equipment related to cleaning, coating, and topside shipboard maintenance. The ideal candidate also has supervisory skills and a general knowledge of safe work practices aboard a ship.
