Job Description:

VA Bedford Healthcare System is looking for a Podiatrist to join our team. The Staff Podiatrist serves the needs of America's Veterans by providing the highest quality foot and ankle care.
Applicants pending the completion of educational or certification/licensure requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but may not be hired until all requirements are met. Podiatrist Basic Requirements Degree as a doctor of podiatric medicine, or its equivalent, from a school of podiatric medicine approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs. Approved schools are United States schools of podiatric medicine approved by the Council on Podiatry Education of the American Podiatry Association in the year in which the degree was granted. ~AND~ Completed, or currently completing, residency training, or its equivalent, approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification. VA Podiatrists involved in academic training programs may be required to be board certified for faculty status. Approved residencies are: (1) Those approved by the accrediting bodies for graduate medical education, the Council on Podiatric Medical Education, in the list published for the year the residency was completed, or (2) Other residencies and training experiences, or their equivalents, which the local Professional Standards Board determines to have provided an applicant with appropriate professional training. ~AND~ Currently hold, or will hold, a full and unrestricted license to practice Podiatry in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States or in the District of Columbia. Physical Requirements: Must pass a pre-employment physical examination as required by VA Handbook 5019. This examination is administered by VA Occupational Health. This position requires moderate lifting 15-44 lbs., light carrying up to 15 lbs., frequent reaching above shoulder, use of fingers, hands and legs, walking & standing up to 8 hours. The incumbent must be physically, emotionally and mentally stable in order to efficiently perform the essential functions of this position without hazard to themselves or others.
Duties include, but not limited to the following , Demonstrate clinical competence in providing comprehensive assessments, diagnosing and treating the diabetic foot. Ability to perform office procedures on the foot consistent with board-certification and/ or level of clinical expertise. Educate others in the assessment, treatment, management and evaluation of foot and ankle disorders. Capable of completing all administrative duties and record keeping including patient progress notes in a timely and professional manner. Provide care in the most cost-effective manner while ensuring that access to care is available when the Veteran needs it. Responds to all patient requests in a timely manner. Demonstrates ability to share the daily workload of podiatric patients equally among Podiatrists and health technician(s). Follows National Directives and the American Diabetes Association Clinical Practice Recommendations regarding foot care. Participates in surgical and podiatric departmental and section meetings. Contributes to and maintains an environment of system oriented continuous quality improvement, within which programs and quality of care effectiveness are evaluated, and when necessary participates in corrective action. Participates in active risk management activities consistent with those of the section and surgical service. The Staff Podiatrist reports directly to the Specialty and Acute Care Service Line Manager as well as has oversight from VISN Podiatry, for support of podiatric patient care, education, and research activities within the podiatric service. The Staff Podiatrist supervises the Podiatry Health Technician. Demonstrates courtesy, respect, and a positive attitude toward all patients & patient family members. Understands the importance of and participates in service recovery. Recognizes the need and modifies care as necessitated by patient's age and abilities. Has the ability to recognize patient signs of physical distress and monitors the patient's condition during treatment. VA offers a comprehensive total rewards package. Relocation/Recruitment Incentives: Not Authorized Contract Buy Out Program: This position may be eligible for the Physician / Provider Contract Buy Out Program (CBOP), which authorizes VHA to buy out service contracts (Locum agreements, loan repayments, sign-on bonus contracts, Physician-owned practices) in exchange for employment at certain rural or highly rural facilities for a period of obligated service (minimum 4 years).
