The purpose of the position is to perform, at the sub-journeyman level, the maintenance, repair, and construction of park trails. Below are the major duties: Performs masonry work, primarily dry stone, in the construction, stabilization, and maintenance to historic and non-historic structures, mostly on the park trail system. Performs carpentry work, primarily using heavy log and rough-sawn lumber, on trail structures such as log checks, footbridges, multi-use bridges, corrals, hitch rails, and boardwalks. Transports tools, materials, employees, livestock, vehicles and equipment to job sites and trailheads. When working with volunteer groups (Youth Corps, Student Conservation Association (SCA), AmeriCorps, Youth Opportunity Center (YOC) or in the absence of a leader or supervisor, incumbent is responsible in leading diverse volunteers in assigned trail maintenance and construction projects.
