Job Description:
The VA Eastern Colorado Health Care System consists of 1 inpatient facility, plus 11 Community-Based Outpatient clinics. Supervisory Social Worker at the GS-12 grade level, under the supervision of the GEC Program Manager, oversees & supervises the clinical care & case management services to a portion of the programs within GEC. These responsibilities include monitoring & as needed, determining, or revising the program's admission criteria, clinical treatment services & program redesign.

Basic Requirements: United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy. English Language Proficiency: Candidates must be proficient in spoken & written English to be appointed as authorized by 38 U.S.C. ยง 7403(f). Education: Have a master's degree in social work from a school of social work fully accredited by the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE). Graduates of schools of social work that are in candidacy status do not meet this requirement until the School of Social Work is fully accredited. A doctoral degree in social work may not be substituted for the master's degree in social work. Verification of the degree can be made by going to http://www.cswe.org/Accreditation to verify that the social work degree meets the accreditation standards for a masters of social work. Licensure: Persons hired or reassigned to social worker positions in the GS-0185 series in VHA must be licensed or certified by a state to independently practice social work at the master's degree level. Grade Determinations: Supervisory Social Worker, GS-12 Education and Experience: One year of experience equivalent to the GS-11 grade level. Experience must demonstrate possession of advanced practice skills in a specialty area or in administration demonstrating progressively more professional competency and judgment. Candidate may have certification or other post-master's degree training from a nationally recognized professional organization or university that includes a defined curriculum/course of study and internship, or equivalent supervised professional experience. Licensure/Certification: Individuals assigned as Supervisory Social Workers must be licensed or certified at the advanced practice level, and must be able to provide supervision for licensure. Demonstrated Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: In addition to the experience above, the candidate must demonstrate all of the following KSAs: Ability to independently organize work, set priorities, and meet multiple deadlines. Knowledge of supervisory duties which includes clinical supervision, consultation, negotiation with other departments and quality improvement. Ability to ensure provision of clinical social work services. Ability to provide staff training and development. Skill in interpersonal relationships in dealing with employees, team leaders, and managers. Assists in planning, establishing, & implementing policies & procedures, often implementing a new or revised process, developing individual or group goals & objectives as well as monitoring, operating, evaluating, coordinating, & supervising the Social Workers of the assigned program. Conduct ongoing intensive reviews & appraisals to ensure the accomplishment of objectives & adherence to standards set by governing bodies. May also provide direct clinical services. Oversees & assign work to the interdisciplinary staff, performing specialized & complex care, including Nurse II, Nurse III, advanced practice social workers, & social work program coordinators. Assesses work, provides administrative, technical, & clinical supervision necessary for accomplishing the work of the programs. Performs the administrative & personnel management function relative to staff supervised. Establish guidelines & performance expectations for staff, clearly communicated through the form employee performance management system. Observe workers' performance; demonstrates & conducts work performance critiques. Provide informal feedback & periodically evaluates employee performance. Works to resolve informal complaints & grievances. Develop work improvement plans, recommending personnel actions as necessary. Provide advice & counsel to work related to work & administrative matters. Invokes disciplinary measures as appropriate to the authority delegated in this area. Reviews & approves or disapproves leave requests. Assures subordinates are trained & fully comply with the provisions of the safety regulations. Responsible for key project activities related to the planning, development, & implementation of the project component. A substantial portion of the workload directed by this position will be carried out at one or more locations that are physically removed from the main unit under conditions that make day-to-day supervision difficult to administer.
