Job Description:
This position is located in the Architect of the Capitol (AOC), Office of the Chief Operating Officer, Facility Manager, Supreme Court Buildings and Grounds, Operations and Maintenance Division, Electrical and Elevator Branch. The AOC is responsible to the Judicial Branch for the structural and mechanical care of the Supreme Court Building and Grounds. The incumbent performs electrician duties in support of equipment and electrical systems in the Supreme Court.

Day Shift (6:00 AM - 2:30 PM) Alternate Work Schedule is Optional WORK SCHEDULE MAY INCLUDE HOLIDAYS AND WEEKENDS ON A REGULAR AND RECURRING BASIS ROTATING SHIFT WORK MAY ALSO BE REQUIRED AT MANAGEMENT'S DISCRETION Major Duties: Electrical/Electronic Maintenance and Repair Performs repair and maintenance work on the electrical and electronic components of circuits, systems, and controls, such as air conditioning units, power distribution lighting systems, intrusion detection systems, electronic entry control systems, fire detection and alarm systems, station batteries, and uninterruptible power supplies. Works with a wide variety of standard industrial electrical devices, equipment, and systems, including electrical wiring systems and associated fixtures, controls, and equipment. Follows all relevant safety rules, regulations, and standard operating procedures. Must utilize knowledge of and must comply with all OSHA safety rules and regulations to ensure that work progresses in a safe manner. Electrical Installation and Troubleshooting Installs, assembles, troubleshoots, modifies, repairs, and maintains electrical lines, circuits, systems, and associated fixtures, controls, and equipment. Troubleshoots electrical devices containing electronic components to isolate the cause of the malfunction of electrical control systems, analog/digital controls, and solid state motor control circuits in equipment. Examples of equipment that contain the circuit-based components are: fire alarm systems, variable speed drives and electric motor starters for the air conditioning systems, cafeteria and kitchen equipment, light dimming systems in conference rooms, and automatic door opening systems. Troubleshoots and repairs electronic ballasts, electronic dimmer panels, automatic transfer switches, motor control centers, transformers, small power tools, secondary power distribution lines, and circuits used to supply a wide range of voltage, amperage, phase, and frequency requirements to distribution panels, switch gear, power and control circuits; industrial multiphase systems; thermocouple sensors; electrical intrusion alarm and fire alarm systems; emergency warning systems; lighting protection systems: high intensity lighting systems with associated controls, AC and DC rectification systems; galvanic and impressed current cathodic protection systems which prevent corrosion on underground or submerged equipment and pipes; amplifier circuits; and related electrical equipment. Tests equipment by use of ammeters, voltmeters, meg-ohmmeters, and other testing equipment. Tests equipment by use of ammeters, voltmeters, megohmmeters, and other testing equipment. Independently works from building plans, blueprints, wiring diagrams, engineering drawings, and electrical maintenance and repair manuals. Traces hard-to-locate defects or problems. Interprets and applies the National Electrical Code (NEC), local codes, building plans, blueprints, wiring diagrams, and engineering drawings and uses trade formulas to calculate common properties, e.g., voltage, voltage drop and current capability in series and parallel circuits, resistance, inductance, capacitance, power factor, current flow, and temperature and length in single and multiple raceways, conduits, gutters, and cable trays. Independently installs, modifies, repairs, loads, and tests systems, circuits, equipment, and controls. Directs the work of Workers and Helpers during cable pulling, tagging, securing, cutting, bending, and mounting electrical conduit. Electrical Layout and Design Work The incumbent performs the electrical aspects of construction and renovation work. Installs electrical devices (conduit, outlets, circuits, etc.) in rooms for which there may not be complete blueprints or schematics available as a result of the age of the facility. Improvises to install the updated circuits and equipment in antiquated facilities without adversely affecting the existing design or architecture. Plans and lays out trades work which includes but is not limited to measuring, cutting, routing, placement, type, size, gauge, balance, load, continuity, and safe operation of electrical lines, circuits, systems, equipment, and controls. Prepares estimates of material and equipment needed and submits requisitions to supervisor for materials, equipment, and supplies necessary to perform the electrical and electronic duties. Determines and places distribution panels, boxes, fittings, and connections and installs wiring, couplings, conduit, relays, fixtures, transformers, and other electrical devices including electrical service entrances.
