The Lead Diagnostic Radiologic Technologist (Computed Tomography) position is located in the Radiology department at the West Haven, CT location. This position is full-time with 40 hours. This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific eligibility requirements per VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Program Approval, award amount (up to $200,000).
To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 08/15/2025. Basic Requirements: United States Citizenship: Be a citizen of the United States. (Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.) Education: Completion of a full-time training course of at least 24 months in duration (or the equivalent) in a post-high school diagnostic radiologic technology program, evidenced by a certificate or associate degree, accredited by the Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology (JRCERT) or from (other accrediting agencies as recognized by the Department of Education(DOE)). Certification: All applicants must be certified in general radiologic technology by the American Registry of Radiologic Technology, Radiography (ARRT)(R). Advanced ARRT certification is required for assignments that include Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), [or Mammograph (M) duties performed independently and has demonstrated specific clinical competency in the appropriate specialty and taken and passed the designated examination. English Language Proficiency. RTs/RRTs appointed to direct patient-care positions must be proficient in spoken and written English as required by 38 U.S.C. ยง 7403(f). May qualify based on being covered by the Grandfathering Provision as described in the VA Qualification Standard for this occupation (only applicable to current VHA employees who are in this occupation and meet the criteria). Grade Determinations: In addition to the basic requirements for appointment, the following criteria must be used when determining the appropriate grade assignment of candidates: Diagnostic Radiologic Technologist GS-10: Experience: At least one year of experience equivalent to the next lower grade level GS-09 directly related to the position being filled that demonstrates the clinical competencies described at that level. The incumbent functions as a lead DRT for a group of DRTs at the GS-9 level and below. The incumbent provides a full range of general radiologic imaging exams, has a broad knowledge of the different modalities within the diagnostic radiologic area, and is accountable to the next higher-level supervisor. Demonstrated Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: In addition to the experience above, the candidate must demonstrate all of the following: Ability to provide feedback to supervisor on technical aspects of work. *Ability to resolve informal employee complaints. *Ability to monitor and report on the status and progress of work and make adjustments to accomplish the workload in accordance with established procedures. Ability to perform general and specialized diagnostic radiologic procedures in advanced levels of complex treatment situations. Probationary Period: The first two year of continuous service in the same or similar position of a preference eligible in the excepted service is a trial period. Physical Requirements: Light to Moderate lifting and carrying, up to 44 pounds; straight pulling; pushing; reaching at and above shoulders; use of both hands and fingers required; walking and/or standing (6-8hours); crawling; kneeling; ability for rapid mental and muscular coordination simultaneously.
Ensures that adequate quantities of CT supplies are available to meet workload demands through a systemized process of ordering, receipt and inventory control. Assures that CT procedure rooms are stocked with necessary supplies at all times with special attention to emergent equipment and supplies. Develops and maintains an on-call schedule for CT technologists. Determines staffing requirements based on past, present, and future workload patterns and develops the weekly/monthly schedules. Trains new technologists in digital angiography, computed tomography, venograms, myelograms, percutaneous nephrostomy, and other special procedures. Develops formal orientation, training, and evaluation programs. Coordinates the repair and installation of CT equipment. Serves as the liaison between Radiology and Biomedical Engineering and repair contractors. Tracks and maintains records of repair history and vendor performance. Confers with radiologists to determine the requirement of nonstandard exams. Determines technical factors, positioning, number and thickness of scans, etc., to produce and satisfy requirements of CT scanning. Work Schedule: Monday-Friday. Hours: 7:30am-4:00pm.
