This position is located in the Reserve Fleets, Office of Ship Operations, Office of the Deputy Associate Administrator for Federal Sealift, Office of the Associate Administrator for Strategic Sealift, Maritime Administration (MARAD).
Qualifications for the position are based on the training, experience, or other requirements that determine which applicants would be able to perform satisfactorily in the position to be filled. To qualify for the WS-12, your experience should include experience equal or equivalent to the following: Ability to oversee the movement of ships, watercraft, and manpower required, including coverage for emergency conditions. Ability to inspect and assess mooring arrangements for berthed ships, directing subordinates in corrective action, and coordinating its management. Ability to interpret and apply navigation rules and navigation aids in charting the movement of ships and watercraft. The Deck Operations Supervisor: Provides technical and advisory services for the operation and maintenance of various trades at the Reserve Fleet, and on a day-to-day, project-by-project basis, plans, implements, and directs the use of personnel involved in those trades. Assigns and explains work requirements, sets deadlines, provides technical guidance, investigates and resolves productivity issues, observes work progress to address problems, and when necessary, reassigns personnel and coordinates group activities. Supports and explains fleet programs, plans and monitors employee leave schedules, ensures compliance with fleet leave policies, and counsels employees on proper leave usage while enforcing regulations. The ideal candidate must display a high degree of leadership, reliability, and competence and must possess a superior knowledge of shipboard steam and diesel propulsion plants, associated systems, and auxiliary machinery.
