To qualify for this position, your resume must state sufficient experience and/or education, to perform the duties of the specific position for which you are applying. BASIC REQUIREMENT(S): Education: A graduate or higher level degree, bachelor's degree, associate degree, or diploma from an accredited professional nursing. A graduate or higher level degree, bachelor's degree, associate degree, or diploma from an accredited professional nursing educational program is required. This education must have been accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education , Council on Accreditation of Nurse Anesthesia Educational Programs, Accreditation Commission for Midwifery Education, or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained. Degree from Foreign Nursing School: Official certification from the Commission on Graduates of Foreign Nursing Schools is required for individuals who graduated from foreign nursing schools. Licensure: For all grade levels and positions, applicants must have passed the National Council Licensure Examination. In addition, they must possess a current, active, full, and unrestricted license or registration as a professional nurse from a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States. Experience: The work experience must have equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position. At the GS-9 and above grade level, many positions may require experience in a specialty area of nursing. In addition to the Basic Requirements, you must also meet the Minimum Qualifications stated below. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: GS-11: Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-09 grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks: Examples include: Participated in quality improvement activities in the areas of healthcare risk mitigation and/or patient safety. Familiar with Joint Commission Standards related to Patient Safety and Risk and has participated in conducting assessments and developing corrective action plans. Presented information in group settings to educate the audience about a topic. Organizational skills to manage data, deadlines, and project management. OR, possess a PhD or equivalent doctoral degree from a professional nursing educational program. You must meet all qualification requirements within 30 days of the closing date of the announcement.
This position promotes and leads a culture of safety at the facility, proactively mitigates risk of harm to patients in coordinated program management throughout the facilities' clinical and non-clinical departments, and provides management of the facilities' risk management program in alignment with the agency and Area risk management program. The position reports to Quality Management Director. **This position is being announced concurrently under Direct Hire Authority (DHA) procedures. NOTE: Applicants must apply separately for each announcement in order to be considered.** Manages a facility wide annual patient safety risk assessment based on analysis of patient safety reports, targeted proactive risk assessments, and tracer activity findings. Develops an annual Patient Safety Plan to address identified risks, track corrective action plans, and promote a culture of safety. Actively promotes High Reliability Organization communication practices such as Team Huddles, Escalating Huddles, Briefs and De-briefs, Leadership Safety Rounding, Leader Daily Safety Briefs, Timeouts, Transition in care tools, closed loop communication, etc. Provides training, and facilitates training opportunities, for facility staff to strengthen communication competencies and improve the culture of safety. Reviews all patient safety reports, coordinates investigations, assesses severity of risk, assesses severity of harm, and closes reports in a timely manner, ensuring data integrity of all fields. Analyzes data to identify trends, patterns, and variations in clinical and non-clinical processes and systems to track patient safety risks and issues, communicating them and coordinating prioritization to ensure that resources are available to act on the highest priorities. Ensures that all reporting requirements are completed according to policy, procedures, and regulation. Coordinates investigation of sentinel events and all other events requiring an RCA using the agency's standardized RCA procedures Serves as the lead on the Risk Management Committee, in order to ensure a comprehensive, closed-loop process in managing patient complaints, grievances, monitoring timeliness and ensuring completion of identified tasks to improve patient safety and address risk areas needing improvement. Develop strategies to support leadership in proactive planning to improve the risk management programs. Review recommendations by all RCA and proactive risk assessment groups. Assists leadership in assessing feasibility of these recommendations.
