AD-5 Candidates for the Associate Professor should possess a doctoral degree from an accredited college or university in history, specializing in military or diplomatic history. Individuals with subject matter expertise in the Cold War with a focus on the US or allied militaries, deterrence, or the People's Republic of China are encouraged to apply. Candidates for the position of Associate Professor of National Security Affairs must have teaching experience in a military and/or civilian educational institution. AD-3 Candidates for the position of Assistant Professor must possess or obtain, within one year of employment, an earned doctorate from an institution accredited by a Department of Education recognized institutional accrediting agency in a discipline appropriate to professional military education. Candidates must have specialized directly related experience. Professional knowledge applicable to a wide range of duties with the broad functional areas of professional military education and academic administration are required, as is skill in using this knowledge in complex assignments that call for extended professional experience or graduate study. Candidates must be able to adapt and extend principles and practices to significant projects and problems for which there are no closely related precedents. Candidates must be able to independently plan, design, execute, and assess all aspects of assigned duties and responsibilities. This opening will be filled under Title 10 Excepted Service, Assistant Professor (AD-03) or Associate Professor (AD-05), salary range of $113,915-$148,708, which includes the current Local Market Supplement of 33.94%. Pay and title will be set commensurate with the successful candidate's qualifications and MCU pay setting. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., professional, philanthropic, religious, spiritual, community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.
You will employ active adult learning methodology to prepare and deliver graduate-level lectures and seminars on a variety of topics to include the evolution of the art and science of warfare, the theory and practice of war, and other topics.
You will participate in the design, development, and synchronization of the College’s curriculum with regards to topics related to War Studies.
You will advise and assist students in a graduate-level advanced degree program that includes the design of a research plan, the development of written essay, and the presentation of an oral defense.
You will participate in scholarly panel discussion and other academic outreach activities.
You will conduct publishable research within the applicant’s field of expertise.
