GENERAL EXPERIENCE: Must be certified at the next higher level before being eligible for that level and must have a minimum of one year on-the-job experience in the grade immediately below the next higher level. An applicant must have a validated understanding of the basic principles and concepts of the occupational series and grade. SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Must have at lease 12 months experience that prepares the applicant to perform the duties of the position. An applicant must demonstrate the following specialized experiences, as defined for each position, in order to qualify for hire, promotion, or reassignment to a position identified by its applicable position description GS-Grade, Certification Career level, and assigned military skills. Is able to perform, manage, supervise, lead, mentor, and/or train the following Information Technology Management and Cyberspace Program requirements: Communications Security Management, Compliance, Computer Network Defense; Configuration Management; data Management; Encryption; Hardware; Information Assurance; Information Systems Security Certification; Information Systems and Network Security; Operating Systems; and Security. Must have experiences working on information technology administrative classified systems, workstations, and servers using multiple operating systems. Experiences involved the installation and testing of the system security configuration, along with a range of competencies in monitoring, operating, troubleshooting and maintaining workstation and server hardware and software. Must have experiences as a technical expert and unit focal point for the configuration of hardware and software on a variety of IT systems with different hardware and operating systems. Skilled to identify and enforce command standards for hardware and software configurations. Skilled to develop, modify, and tests overall system backup and recovery strategies for assigned systems. Capable to configure work-station security parameters. Competent in troubleshooting and correcting software problems that included resolving conflicts between applications, hardware and/or device conflicts, and operating system faults. Skilled in detecting and removing computer viruses. Skilled in restoring critical data files; and in updating hardware and software architecture databases to reflect installations, turn-ins, and changes in reportable software. Experienced as a systems administrator with responsibilities that included planning, coordinating, modifying, implementing, and troubleshooting that met or exceeded customer needs. Knowledgeable on the administration of all systems, to include a myriad of associated hardware platforms, software applications and numerous interfaces included in the Local Area Network (LAN). Competent to perform security management work in accordance with AF, AFSPC, National Guard Bureau (NGB) and Air National Guard (ANG) regulations and policies. Competencies include the skills to implement local policies regarding system access, network rights, and physical access to systems and equipment. Knowledgeable on applications used to analyze, evaluate, and recommends hardware/software changes to various computer systems. Skilled to identify factors such as, compatibility with standard systems, conversion or implementation costs, compliance with DOD, AF, AFSPC, and ANG policies, and resulting impacts on existing equipment. Skilled in the ability to install, configure and test products and equipment. Experiences including the development of plans for the necessary acquisition of automation (hardware and software) requirements. Experienced in working within guidelines, standard operating procedures (SOPs), bulletins, and flyers for the operation and use of assigned C4 systems, services, and activities. Competent to analyze policies, regulations, and system provisions that govern standard operating systems and skilled to provide assistance and advisory services.
A GS-2210-11, IT SPEC (SYSADMIN): Serves as a technical expert and focal point for the installation and configuration of hardware and software on personal computers and for personal data assistants associated with assigned systems. Develops, modifies, and tests overall system backup and recovery strategies for assigned systems. Serves as a systems administrator responsible for planning, coordinating, modifying, implementing, and troubleshooting in order to meet customer needs. Work pertains to the administration of all systems, including a myriad of associated hardware platforms, software applications and numerous interfaces included in the Local Area Network (LAN). Serves as a technical expert on multiple operating systems and computer platforms. Determines equipment and communications requirements and interfaces with other systems. Evaluates machine usage and develops plans for the necessary acquisition to support future automation (hardware and software) requirements. Analyzes, evaluates, and recommends hardware/software changes to various computer systems. Considers factors such as compatibility with standard systems, conversion or implementation costs, and impact on existing equipment. Installs, configures and tests products and equipment being reviewed. Develops guidelines, standard operating procedures (SOPs), bulletins and flyers regarding the operation/use of assigned C4 systems, services, and activities. Analyzes policies, regulations, and system provisions governing standard operating systems and provides assistance and advisory services to users. Implements systems software changes, operating system releases and maintains the operational status of systems. Coordinates with system developers resolving hardware and/or software malfunctions. Performs security management in accordance with National Guard Bureau (NGB) and Air National Guard (ANG) regulations and policies. Reviews and implements local policies regarding system access, network rights, and physical access to systems and equipment. Implements ANG policy relating to systems storage requirements. Analyzes system operations to identify inefficiencies and takes action to resolve problems and ensure optimal performance and consistency. Provides input to the ANG Continuity of Operation Plan (COOP) procedures for system disaster recovery. COOP recovery includes reestablishment of systems at multiple sites and locations. Installs and configures workstation or network operating systems, and applications software on a wide range of configurable information systems devices. Configures a wide variety of devices requiring diverse interfaces and device drivers in multiple operating system environments using a wide variety of hardware platforms. Enforces command standards for hardware and software configurations. Configures workstation security parameters. Troubleshoots and corrects software problems to include resolving conflicts between applications, hardware and/or device conflicts, and operating system faults. Detects and removes computer viruses. Restores critical data files. Updates hardware and software architecture databases to reflect installations, turn-ins, and changes in reportable software. Other duties as assigned.
