Job Description:
These positions are located within the Albuquerque Area Indian Health Service, Office of Environmental Health and Engineering (OEHE), Division of Health Facilities (DHF). The purpose of these positions is to provide maintenance, preventive maintenance, and craft skills in the following trades: plumbing, heating/cooling, carpentry, electrical, grounds work, and painting trades.
To qualify for this position, your resume must state sufficient experience and/or education, to perform the duties of the specific position for which you are applying. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer and part time experience. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week. Candidates for this position will be evaluated under the Federal Wage System (FWS) Job Grading Standards. PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Requires a considerable amount of standing, stooping, bending, climbing, and working in tiring or uncomfortable positions. May work from ladders and scaffolds. Lifting and/or moving up to 50 pounds. WORKING CONDITIONS: Exposed to a variety of seasonal weather conditions while working outdoors (temperatures can range from -40 to 90+ degrees). Subject to danger of falling from ladders, stilts or scaffolding. Exposed to dust, dirt, wind and rain. May work with dangerous chemicals and around moving equipment; paints, solvents, etc.This job has screen-out element(s) which will be used to determine minimum eligibility for this job. Applicants who do not meet the screen-out element(s) will be found ineligible. Screen-out element(s): Ability to perform the work of a Maintenance Mechanic as described in the vacancy announcement, without more than normal supervision. Time In Grade Federal employees in the competitive service are also subject to the Time-In-Grade Requirements: Merit Promotion (status) candidates must have completed one year of service at the next lower grade level. Time-In-Grade provisions do not apply under the Excepted Service Examining Plan (ESEP). You must meet all qualification requirements within 30 days of the closing date of the announcement.
Troubleshoot and repairs (minor) heating and cooling systems, to include: residential furnaces and air conditioning units Makes repairs to various plumbing systems and equipment. Modifying plumbing equipment such as sinks, lavatories, bathtubs, showers and hot water heaters. Performs electrical duties such as removes, replaces, tightens, splices, solders and insulates defective wiring, controls, equipment and fixtures. Mix and blend paints. Paint buildings, structures and furniture. Cleans and maintains painting equipment. Assuring overall yard, grounds sprinkler system, fences, drainage systems are in good repair. Receives oral or written assignments from Maintenance Mechanic Supervisor which may be accompanied by sketches, drawings or blueprints.
