To qualify for a Environmental Protection Specialist your resume and supporting documentation must support: One year of specialized experience that equipped you with the particular competencies to successfully perform the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the position to be filled. To qualify at the GS-12 level, applicants must possess one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-11 level or equivalent under other pay systems in the Federal service, military, or private sector. Applicants must meet eligibility requirements including time-in-grade (General Schedule (GS) positions only), time-after-competitive appointment, minimum qualifications, and any other regulatory requirements by the cut-off/closing date of the announcement. Creditable specialized experience includes: Maintaining coordination with generators, screeners, buyers, and contract personnel to ensure all DoD federal and state environmental requirements are complied with when both receiving and disposing of hazardous materials/waste. Conducting seminars and orientations on environmental operations and programs. Gathering information, developing, and explaining findings, and communicating in writing in a clear, professional, and effective manner. Evaluating records, statements, and operating programs to determine the nature and extent of deficiencies. Analyzing and problem solving to determine the best disposal solution based on the analytical assessment. Conducting audits of environmental operations, contractor owned hazardous materials/waste facilities, and recycling operations. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional, philanthropic, religious, spiritual, community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
Serve as the senior Environmental Protection Specialist within assigned areas.
Responsible for monitoring and enhancing the relationship customers have with DLA, including customer outreach initiatives.
Provides oversight and support to DLA Disposition Services Field Activities disposing of hazardous materials/waste.
Promotes timely Reutilization, Transfer, Donation (RTD)/Sales to preclude service contracts being used to provide ultimate disposal.
Conducts on-site reviews/inspections of the environmental operations at DLA Disposition Services Field Activity
Resolves problems associated with the receipt and disposal of hazardous materials/waste.
Conducts reviews, analyses, and special studies of DLA Disposition Services automated accounts to evaluate hazardous property inventory integrity and accuracy.
Ensures processes are in compliance with applicable laws/policies/regulations and are well documented and regularly maintained
Assists management in strategic planning process to align DLA Disposition Services organizations with DLA Disposition Services/DLA/DoD objectives and goals.
