This vacancy is for a GS-1670-11/12, Equipment Specialist (Aircraft) located in the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), Aviation Logistics Center (ALC), Short Range Recovery (SRR) Product Line, SRR Engineering Branch, Elizabeth City, NC.
To qualify at the GS-11 grade level, applicants must have at least one (1) full year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-09 grade level in the federal sector. Specialized experience is experience that has equipped you with the particular ability, skill, and knowledge to successfully perform the duties of this position and is typically in or related to this line of work. Specialized experience must include the following: Investigating and analyzing unusual aircraft equipment problems, questions, or conditions, providing solutions where needed. Maintaining overhaul schedule and sequence of events to ensure timely delivery. Researching parts, contacting inventory managers, and arranging for the delivery of parts. Conducting industrial maintenance practices, quality assurance, and inspections of electronics, avionics, and hydraulics on aircraft platforms. NOTE: Education can be substituted for experience at this grade level. Completion of a Ph.D., if related; OR at least 3 years of graduate-level education towards such a degree, if related; OR an LL.M., if related. Such education must demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work. COMBINING EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: When an applicant has less than one year of specialized experience as described above, he or she may combine successfully completed graduate-level education with experience to meet the total qualification requirements. Analyzing equipment and forecasting spare parts requirements NOTE: Education cannot be substituted for experience at this grade level. The Office of Personnel management (OPM) must authorize employment offers made to current or former political appointees. You will serve as an Equipment Specialist (Aircraft) and be responsible for providing technically expertise to the SRR Engineering Branch relating to the execution of the H-65 Spare Parts Break out (SPBO) efforts; collecting, analyzing, interpreting and developing specialized information about equipment, providing such information together with advisory services to the Engineering Branch. Being a Coast Guard civilian makes you a valuable member of the Coast Guard team. Typical work assignments include: Collecting technical and logistic information on assigned projects in order to develop a project folder. Identifying potential vendors and recommend requirements; communicating with vendors concerning established source approval procedures and validation process. Participating in reverse engineering efforts; assembling Level III technical data packages. Processing supply Inventory Change Records (SICR) to optimize H-65 sparing.
