To qualify for the Head Deskperson KI-00, applicants must meet the requirement below: Applicants must meet SCREEN OUT/JOB ELEMENT (Job Element #1): Ability to do the work of a Head Desk Person without more than normal supervision. Examples include :experience proofreading text to make changes and answer queries regarding press jobs; answer readers' questions regarding office style and peculiarities in work; interpret forms, coding and preparation when of a technical nature, leading employees and directing work; Familiarity with Congressional record, Federal register, and Bill Styles. In addition to the requirements above, GPO employees competing under merit promotion procedures must meet all of the following criteria in accordance with Federal Merit Promotion Plan, GPO Instruction 615.2C (Appendix B): 1. Have completed a formal, recognized apprenticeship or GPO journeyperson training program, or possess substantially equivalent practical experience in the trade of the vacancy; AND 2. Have at least 1 year of journeyperson experience subsequent to completion of the above apprenticeship or training; AND 3. Have served a minimum of 1 year in Career or Career-Conditional appointment in the GPO.(add supervisory statement from MP Plan). 4. Have served at least 1 year in an administrative or supervisory capacity. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. All qualification requirements must be met by the closing date of this announcement to be considered.
Performs initial editing and saves to locator function of XML files.
Troubleshoots and effectively processes work with an understanding of Bill End production priorities.
Lists XML bill files completed for both House and Senate.
Distributes and reviews the work of proofreaders, checking the galleys returned by proofreaders or revised by the readers, and making additional marks when errors are detected or when coding changes are needed to effect desired results.
Answer queries on galley proofs when possible and verifies marks to be carried on proofs, to the department, if necessary.
