This vacancy is for a WG-3703-8/10, WELDER, WG-3703-08/10 located in the Department of Homeland Security, U.S. Coast Guard, INDUSTRIAL PRODUCTION FACILITY BOSTON in BOSTON, Massachusetts.

Applicants will be rated and ranked based on their knowledge of the following job elements: Ability to Do the Work of the Position without More than Normal Supervision (SCREEN OUT ELEMENT). Technical Practices (theoretical, precise, artistic). Use of Measuring Instruments. Ability to Interpret Instructions, Specifications, etc. (includes blueprint reading). Ability to Use and Maintain Tools and Equipment. Knowledge of Metals. Dexterity and Safety. National Service Experience (i.e., volunteer experience): Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
The purpose of this position is to perform welding assignments may include work on Lighthouses, aids to navigation (AtoN), barges, boats, ships and small vessels, and other associated equipment. Being a Coast Guard civilian makes you a valuable member of the Coast Guard team. Typical work assignments include: Welding various components of a ship including the shell, broken or cracked engine parts, framing, inner bottoms, tanks, boilers, decks, bulkheads, superstructures, masts, stacks, ventilation ducts, railings, Class I piping and similar components. Welding prefabricated subassemblies, buoys, davits, pressure vessel tanks, piping and similar items. Removing and replacing interferences in way of welds, fitting brackets and machinery foundations and fitting minor structural braces, gussets or patches. Adjusting all welding controls to insure that qualified welding procedures are maintained.
