GS-12: To qualify for the GS-12, applicants must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-11 grade level in Federal service as defined below: Specialized Experience: Specialized experience is defined as experience working in a legal environment providing a variety of legal assistance and technical work requiring a specialized knowledge of processes, procedures, and practices to support legal activities. Examples of specialized experience may include: assisting attorneys and legal support staff in organizing voluminous case information; assisting attorneys in pretrial preparations (preparing, scheduling, reviewing, and organizing discovery; notifying, interviewing, and managing witnesses, and researching case law); and mentoring and/or providing training to legal support staff.
If selected for this position, you will join a well-respected team that is responsible for Supervisory Legal Administrative Specialist in the United States Attorney's Office (USAO). Typical work assignments will include: Performing overall supervision, coordination, and assignment of legal support staff to casework and for ensuring adequate coverage during pretrial, trial and post-trial stages; Performing the full scope of supervisory responsibilities: assigning performance ratings, assessing individual skills and needs and recommending training, issuing awards, addressing employee conduct and performance issues as appropriate, approving/disapproving leave requests, and dealing effectively with employees on suggestions, complaints and grievances; Providing a variety of legal assistance and technical work requiring a specialized knowledge of processes, procedures, and practices to support legal activities; Performing tasks associated with the organization, preparation, delivery, and tracking of discovery in cases involving large volumes of documentary and/or digital evidence; and Performing a variety of litigation support duties that involve communicating through visual means. Responsibilities will increase and assignments will become more complex as your training and experience progress.
