This vacancy is for a WG-3501-5, Trades and Laborer Helper MEO located in the Department of Homeland Security, U.S. Coast Guard, TRACEN CAPE MAY UTILITIES in Cape May, New Jersey.
Applicants will be evaluated on their ability to perform the duties of the position rather than the length of experience. Eligibility will be determined by the relevance, scope, and quality of all experience and training, regardless of where or how acquired. Applicants will be rated and ranked based on their knowledge of the following job elements: Specialized experience must include the following: Ability to do the work of the position without more than normal supervision (screen out element) Work Practices (includes keeping things, neat, clean and in order) Ability to interpret instructions, specifications, etc. (other than blueprints) Ability to use and maintain tools and equipment Dexterity and safety Specialized experience is experience that has equipped you with the particular ability, skill, and knowledge to successfully perform the duties of this position and is typically in or related to this line of work. NOTE: Education cannot be substituted for experience at this grade level. You will serve as a Trades and Laborer Helper MEO and be responsible for the Department of Homeland Security, U.S. Coast Guard Training Center, Facilities Engineering Division, Public Works Branch, Cape May, NJ. Being a Coast Guard civilian makes you a valuable member of the Coast Guard team. Typical work assignments include: Assisting with the construction, repair, maintenance, of the structures and mechanical systems and grounds maintenance to include grass cutting and snow removal. Using a working knowledge of the basic practice, procedures, tools, materials, and terminology of any particular trade. Using trade hand tools of any particular trade and in the use of portable power tools. Mandatory training is required which must be successfully completed and other training may occur as necessary for success in the position.
