Job Description:

This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific individual eligibility requirements in accordance with VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Program Approval, award amount (up to $200,000) and eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after complete review of the EDRP application.

Qualified applicants will be considered and referred as vacancies become available. *** Basic Requirements: Citizenship - You must be a citizen of the United States English Language Proficiency - You must be proficient in spoken and written English as required by 38 U.S.C. 7403(f) Education and/or Experience Combination - You must possess a master's degree in Social Work from a school of social work fully accredited by the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE). Graduates of schools of social work that are in candidacy status do not meet this requirement until the school of social work is fully accredited. Note: A doctoral degree in Social Work may NOT be substituted for the master's degree in Social Work. License or Certification - You must be licensed or certified by a state to independently practice social work at the master's degree level. Grade Determinations: Social Worker (Program Coordinator), GS-12 Experience and Education - One year of experience equivalent to the GS-11 grade level. Experience must demonstrate possession of advanced practice skills and judgment, demonstrating progressively more professional competency. Candidate may have certification or other post-master's degree training from a nationally recognized professional organization or university that includes a defined curriculum/course of study and internship, or equivalent supervised professional experience. ( Licensure/Certification - Individuals assigned as social worker program coordinator must be licensed or certified at the advanced practice level, and must be able to provide supervision for licensure. [(3) Demonstrated Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities - In addition to the experience above, the candidate must demonstrate all of the following KSAs: (a) Knowledge of program coordination and administration which includes consultation, negotiation, and monitoring. (b) Knowledge and ability to write policies, procedures, and/or practice guidelines for the program. (c) Ability to supervise multidisciplinary staff assigned to the program. (d) Skill in organizing work, setting priorities, meeting multiple deadlines, and evaluating assigned program area(s). (e) Ability to provide training, orientation, and guidance within clinical practice. Physical Requirements: This position provides direct services to patients and their families through casework. Incumbents must be physically and mentally able to efficiently perform the essential functions of the position without hazard to themselves or others. Normal work of the position requires visual acuity (with the ability to read typewritten characters without strain, corrective lenses permitted), keen hearing, clear distinctive speech, and manual dexterity. This position requires potentially moderate levels of lifting and carrying (15-44 pounds). The incumbent may occasionally be exposed to patients who are combative secondary to delirium, dementia, or psychiatric disorders. The incumbent must be a mature, flexible, sensible individual capable of working effectively in stressful situations, able to shift priorities based on patient needs. Must complete annual Employee Health requirements, such as annual TB screening or testing, as a condition of employment. The incumbent may be required to drive a government vehicle and mut possess and maintain a current, valid, unrestricted state driver's license.
Total Rewards of a Allied Health Professional Ensures that the program follows a trauma-informed approach to care for Veterans who experience IPV as well as those who use IPV. Provides or coordinates staff training levels I, II, II. Ensures staff trainings are recorded and up to date within TMS system. Draws from a public health model and trauma informed approach. Organizes trainings for all providers, key stakeholders, and IPVAP Champions addressing the dynamics of IPV to include definitions, epidemiology, health consequences, clinical signs/symptoms, screening and response practices, employee services, documentation, safety planning, and resources for referral. Provides training to facility staff on IPV documentation guidelines which aim to ensure that Veterans who may be at risk of experiencing and/or using intimate partner violence are identified and provided care to increase their safety and reduce risk for themselves and others, and are treated with dignity and respect. Manages and tracks Veteran IPV screening and response to positive screenings. Coordinates Veteran screening process supporting timely satisfaction to the Relationship Health and Safety Clinical Reminder. Implementation of the National Clinical Reminder which may include a consult. Using the E-HITS (Hurt, Insult, Threaten, Scream) along with risk assessment if indicated during initial episode of care. Ensure Veterans who have positive response to EHITS and Secondary Risk Assessment have access to warm handoff to an IPVAP Champion for complete Danger Assessment, Safety Planning, and Referral to DV specific services. Ensures Veterans who request further IPV information and needed referrals have consult to ongoing care under the IPVAP Coordinators purview. Coordinates response to facility referrals for IPV, including providing safety planning to at-risk Veterans as needed and/or guiding facility staff on options for responding to positive screenings. Tracks and monitors referrals from VA providers for Veterans as well, Caregivers, Spouse/Partner and VA Employees. Tracks and monitors referrals from EAP in line with existing medical center policies and procedures. Develops and maintains a list of IPV-related community agencies and resources. Serves as a resource to Veterans and staff regarding IPV community resources. Coordinates referrals to outside agencies as needed. Coordinates treatment services specific to Veterans who use and/or have experienced intimate partner violence. Coordination will include direct work involvement support on an as needed basis. Provides referrals to VA medical and mental health treatment and to other VA services including VA benefits, as well as community-based social services and other non-VA entitlement programs. Serves as the major consultant for information on negotiating the complex processes Veterans, their families, Caregivers and VA employees encounter when interacting with government and community agencies. Coordinates the events and programs for the annual Domestic Violence Awareness Month every October that includes announcement and advertising of month long activities, mobilization of participants, educational sessions, and VA IPV Assistance Program.
