This vacancy is for a WS-4749-14, Maintenance Mechanic Supervisor located in the Department of Homeland Security, U.S. Coast Guard, INDUSTRIAL PRODUCTION FACILITY ALAMEDA in Alameda, California.

You will serve as a Maintenance Mechanic Supervisor, the General Foreman for all of IPF Alameda. This position reports directly to the Industrial Manager, a Coast Guard Lieutenant, and serves as overall supervisor in their absence. Ideal candidate for this position has a broad knowledge base of both shipboard repair and maintenance as well as shore based construction. Most importantly member needs to be an excellent supervisor able to manage and prioritize multiple shops often with competing interests, handle personnel conflicts at the earliest point to minimize impact, able to communicate clearly both orally and in written form, be flexible with changing priorities of the Coast Guard, and keep motivation and morale of subordinates high. Some formalized project management training is beneficial but successful experience managing upwards of 30 simultaneous jobs with combined value of $2.5 million would suffice. Overall, this position is responsible for all production of IPF Alameda and all personnel actions of subordinates. Job requests, or Industrial Service Orders (ISOs), come in with various levels of detail and size. The General Foreman will need to work with the Industrial Manager, shop supervisors and customer to refine the ISO request, estimate budget, establish a performance period, and deconflict with all other jobs. Throughout each project the General Foreman will need to monitor the work, inspect for quality, and coordinate with procurement. Being a Coast Guard civilian makes you a valuable member of the Coast Guard team. Typical work assignments include: Receiving general work assignments in the form of written work orders and/ or oral instructions with or without accompanying blueprint sketches or specifications. Managing all aspects of work assignments, developing methods for project execution, establishing standards, and reviewing work for quality and timeliness in meeting schedule completion dates. Establishing deadlines, priorities, and work sequences. Coordinating projects with other supervisors, with other CG organizations and customers, and with subcontractors. Supervising, coordinating, and inspecting work of subordinates. Monitoring projects and adjusting team rosters most efficiently to accomplish the work and maintain a balanced workload.
