THIS IS A NATIONAL GUARD TITLE 5 EXCEPTED SERVICE POSITION. This National Guard position is for a TITLE 5 SAFETY AND OCCUPATIONAL HEALTH MANAGER (MI SAAO), Position Description Number NGT5886000 and is part of the MI SAAO, National Guard.

Developing and recommending safety and occupational health policy to higher levels of management. Applying safety and occupational health laws, regulations, principles, theories, practices, and procedures to advise on or resolve technical matters dealing with occupational safety and health requirements. Developing safety and occupational health standards, regulations, practices, and procedures to eliminate or control potential hazards. Developing or implementing programs to reduce the frequency, severity, and cost of accidents and occupational illnesses. Analyzing or evaluating new and existing jobs, processes, products, or other systems to determine the existence, severity, probability, and outcome of hazards. Designing or modifying workplaces, processes, products, or other systems to control or eliminate hazards. Inspecting or surveying workplaces, processes, products, or other systems for compliance with established safety and occupational health policies or standards and to identify potential new hazards. Training of workers, supervisors, managers, or other safety and occupational health personnel in safety or occupational health subjects. Work in occupational fields such as industrial hygienist, safety engineer, fire prevention engineer, health physicist, and occupational health nurse.
***THIS IS A TITLE 5 EXCEPTED NATIONAL GUARD POSITION*** This position is located in the Army National Guard (ARNG) Joint Force Headquarters (JFHQ)/State, Territory, and District of Columbia Safety and Occupational Health Office. 1. Serves as the Senior State, Territory, District of Columbia Safety Occupational Health (SOHM) Manager in the maintenance of a comprehensive safety, Occupational Health, and Industrial Hygiene programs. The State SOHM is the principal advisor to The Adjutant General and is responsible for developing, planning, organizing, directing, coordinating, executing, and evaluating SOH-related matters of mission execution pertaining to AR 385-10 and SOH regulatory and statutory requirements. 2. Plans, assigns, and evaluates works of subordinates. Using subordinate supervisors, group/committee chairs, and the like, oversees and directs SOH work activities. Makes decisions on work issues presented by subordinate supervisors or leaders. 3. Conducts and ensures safety mishap investigations comply with DoDI 6055.07 and 29 CFR 1904.39 guidance and ensure the notification, investigation, reporting, and recordkeeping of ARNG on-duty, off duty, non-duty and materiel deficiency safety mishaps. Ensures the regular inspection of facilities, workplaces, operations, explosives storage, and training ranges are conducted by qualified safety professionals. 4. Establishes, trains, and advises personnel on the integration of Risk Management processes and assist leaders in implementation of installation SOH programs. Coordinates and integrates Occupational Health and Industrial Hygiene programmatic operations. 5. Develops safety and health promotion programs consisting of safety awards, seasonal safety, employee workplace safety awareness, media, and social communication tools. Ensures Occupational Health processes support general public health efforts for all Army personnel and may seek to maximize worker productivity through health promotion efforts.
