Job Description:
You will serve as a ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION SPECIALIST in the Environment Division of NAV FACILITIES ENGINEERING COMMAND SE. The primary function of this position is to assist the hazardous material manager with the execution of the hazardous material plan and associated tasks to include, but not limited to hazardous material shipping, inventory, manifest verification, and handling.
Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-07 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector 1) managing environmental engineering with hazardous pollutants, hazardous materials, and hazardous waste and the associated response and cleanup of associated contamination; 2) preparing waste for disposal within established time frames, reviewing and preparing shipping documents, and/or bill of lading for transporting hazardous and non-hazardous waste 3) performing effective and efficient response plans to spills, containment and cleanup processes accomplished within all applicable rules and regulations. Conditions of Employment continued: I understand that if selected for the position, I need the complete the following trainings: ~ 40-hour training in Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) 29 CFR 1910 HAZOPER, ~ DOT Hazardous Material Training (49 CFR 172.704): required within 90 of position assignment ~ RCRA/Hazardous Waste Management (40 CFR 262.17(a)(7)): required within 6 months of position assignment ~ Refresher training demonstrated by annual refresher training in OSHA (8-hour) and RCRA courses with triennial (every 3 years) refresher training in DOT/Hazardous Materials/Waste Transportation courses.
You will maintain files of internal inspections per Navy and regulatory requirements, and notify Environmental Services Supervisor, HW Program Manager and IEPD of inspections reveal significant violations requiring assistance to correct.
You will coordinate analytical requirements and request sampling services per installation procedures.
You will inspect contents or regulated waste containers to ensure compliance with regulations, installation's management plans, and any permits.
You will coordinate with departments, tenant commands, and contractors to ensure any improper waste pick-up procedures that resulted in waste being rejected are corrected.
