This position is located in the Transportation Services Section, Logistics Services Division, Integrated Support Services Directorate, Chief Operating Officer. The position description number for this position is 009852 The hourly range indicated reflects the locality pay adjustments for the Washington, D.C., Metropolitan area. The incumbent of this position will work a flextime work schedule. This is a non-supervisory, bargaining unit position.
Applicants must have had progressively responsible experience and training sufficient in scope and quality to furnish them with an acceptable level of the following knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the duties of the position without more than normal supervision. Ability to operate motor vehicles.** Ability to apply safety regulations, interpret instructions and follow directions.** Ability to perform standard motor vehicle operator responsibilities.** Do you possess a valid, current State-issued Class B commercial driver’s license with Passenger (P) endorsement to operate a commercial vehicle?** Ability to plan and execute work. Ability to communicate effectively other than in writing.
Must possess and maintain a current valid Commercial Driver’s License with Passenger endorsement for providing legal authority to drive vehicles for 16 or more passengers. Operates all types of vehicles in the Library's motor vehicle fleet in transporting officials, staff, and property of the Library of Congress to and from specified points in connection with a variety of official demands and responsibilities. Provides motor transportation to important representatives of Government and business, to foreign dignitaries, and persons of similar rank having official business with the Office of the Librarian. The vehicles operated include cars, vans, buses, and light/heavy duty trucks. As required, delivers sensitive documents addressed to senior officials at other Government agencies and Members of Congress. May be required to make out-of-town trips in which case incumbent has responsibility for collecting pertinent information as to routes, traffic regulations, weather and accommodations for arranging details pertaining to overnight storage of the vehicle. Responsible for the correct loading and unloading of passenger and/or cargo, being certain that overloading in accordance with local ordinances is avoided. Cargo must be arranged according to size and structure and secured for safety. Prepares and maintains log/records of the day-to-day use of the car/vehicle. This includes documenting mileage, fuel charges, repairs, and use rates. Responsible for communicating with customers, scheduling vehicles for use, and dispatching and processing transportation requests. Performs regular operator maintenance of vehicles weighing up to 26,000 pounds. Checks fluid levels and air pressure in tires; cleans and washes vehicles. Conducts routine inspection of assigned vehicle and recognizes the development of maintenance related problems. Notifies supervisor of needs for repair. Performs limited emergency repairs including installing emergency fan belt or replacing electrical fuses, changing tires during emergencies, checking brakes, sweeping and dusting interior, etc. Completes preventive maintenance service records. Relocation expenses will not be authorized for the person(s) selected under this vacancy announcement.
