As a Maintenance Mechanic Leader, the incumbent is responsible for leading the following positions: Electricians (high voltage and medium voltage), Utility System Repairer Operators, Maintenance Mechanics, Painters, HVAC Mechanics and/or Workers, and Pipefitters
To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 09/25/2025. EXPERIENCE: A specific length of training and experience is not required, but you must show evidence of training or experience of sufficient scope and quality of your ability to do the work of this position. Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Federal Wage System Qualification Standards. SCREEN-OUT ELEMENT: Your qualifications will first be evaluated against the prescribed screen out element, which usually appears as question 1 in the on-line questionnaire. Those applicants who appear to possess at least the minimal acceptable qualification requirement are considered for further rating; those who do not are rated ineligible and are eliminated. Physical Requirements/Working Conditions: Work involves strenuous, heavy physical effort and frequent reaching, bending, stooping and turning. Equipment worked on is large and must be moved in and out of specific locations. Frequently sets up parts and equipment that weigh up to 75 pounds and occasionally heavier. Ladders scaffolds and platforms may be used when working systems.Working Conditions Work is performed inside and outside in all types of weather. Incumbent may work in awkward and cramped positions and may be exposed to the dander of the job and equipment.
Measures, cuts and constructs using standard building materials. Completes projects that involve constructing, altering, repairing, and/or modifying framework, rafters, doors, finished paneling, windows, rough furniture, interior/exterior trim, staircases, trusses and beams. Operate and use a wide variety of specialty woodworking machines and tools. Removing old plaster; cut fit and nail wood, metal and rock lath to walls, ceiling and other supporting members. in preparation for plastering, installs metal studs & steel door jambs, also installs comer beads, base beads and bullnose heads to be true, straight and level and installs access panels in walls and ceilings. Setting and rigging scaffolding, using extension ladders, planks, stepladders, ladder jacks, steel scaffolding and window jack. Prepares surfaces for painting by washing, sanding, burning with a blowtorch, using prepared paint removers, puttying holes, plastering small cracks, shellacking knots, etc. Performs fabrication, patching, and replacing of interior/exterior walls, constructed of brick, block, stone, ceramic tile, quarry tile; plaster walls, ceilings, door bucks and around window frames; constructs form for pouring concrete and pours same; installs metal lathe; patches concrete floors, stairs and walls; and tapes and floats sheetrock; builds arches, lintels, windowsills to support walls above opening. Performs locksmith work on are in warehouses, hospitals, and administrative spaces and complexes including those with areas that have special requirements such as communication centers, electronic data processing centers, operating rooms, laboratories, clean rooms, and other areas with sensitive equipment. Installs, repairs, maintains, and calibrates a wide variety of electrical equipment designated as engineering responsibility which includes, but not limited to; Medium voltage systems (13200 Volts and 4160 Volts), Low voltage systems (120/208 Volts and 480 Volts), motors, fire alarm systems, security equipment, electronic switches and controls, solid state pump controls and dimming controls for special lighting, also surveillance lighting, ultrasonic controls, shop machinery, interior and exterior lighting, domestic and industrial type installed appliances. Tests, repairs, and maintains essential emergency power switch gear. Examines and troubleshoots equipment, machinery and systems to determine the extent of repairs required, materials or parts needed, and to estimate the time required to complete repairs. Disassembles and repairs general machinery, equipment, and systems including Pneumatic tube. Disassembles and repairs general machinery, equipment, and systems including patient lifts, including medical gas systems to include oxygen, nitrogen, nitrous oxide, medical vacuum, medical air. General repair, maintenance, modifications, dismantling and reassembling ice machines, freezers, walk-in coolers, refrigerators, food and nutrition modules, air conditioning roof top units, medical unit refrigerators, cooling towers, chillers, heating and cooling pumps, air handling units, morgue refrigeration units, kitchen refrigeration, and all heating and ventilation systems. Performs air balancing, modifying various elements of the system, air quality surveys, and isolation of HVAC control and maintenance systems. May serve as a secondary Contracting Officer's Representative (COR) on multiple contracts that fall under purview. Responsible for assisting with emergency response actions as it relates to Engineering actions, which may include responding after hours or outside of tour of duty, remaining on station during inclement or emergency events and assisting with work and after-action items post event. Responsible for leading the following positions: Electricians (high voltage and medium voltage), Utility System Repairer Operators, Maintenance Mechanics, Painters, HVAC Mechanics and/or Workers, and Pipefitters. Assisting the Shop Supervisor in the plans, layout, assigning, and coordination of work for the Team on a daily, weekly and monthly basis. Input is provided to the supervisor on scheduled project work or longer-term plans. Utilizing automated computer software for day-to-day operations, such as but not limited to: Microsoft Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint, VISTA, VATAS, AMES/MERs, etc. Work Schedule: Sunday-Thursday 2:30pm-11:0pm, 3:00pm-11:30pm, 4:00pm-12:30am, Rotating shifts. subject to change based on the needs of the facility.
